Anyone hear of Emhar models from England?

Does anyone have any experience or know of the quality of Emhar kits from England?

Thanks,

Eric

Yes, They’ve released a few nice kits. The ones I have are their FJ-4 Fury and F3H Demon. I believe they also did an F-94. The quality is good, detail is basic. PE would really dress them up but they are the only injected game in town for these a/c, and our vastly superior to the old vac kits they replaced. Cheap too. I believe Squadron still stocks them. Let me know if you want a picture. Gary

Gary that would be great to see a picture! You read my mind. I was looking at the Squadron catalog today and was eyeing up their Fury and their Demon. I won’t lose any sleep if they don’t have all the plumbing in the wheel wells nor if they have every switch and button recreated in the cockpit. Could you shed a wee bit more light on how they look after they’re done? I guess I was a bit hessitant when I saw such low prices! I’m so used to the norm being huge inflated prices so when I saw that they were 11 bucks (or something like that) I sort of got suspicious. I sure don’t feel like paying 60-some odd dollars for the 1/48 kits. I’d love to have them on my shelves but that’s just a bit pricey for my blood right now. Hmmm…blood…I might have to start selling mine to keep in the hobby anymore. Thank you Trumpeter and Tamiya.

Thank you again for the great info!

Eric

I’ve built the FJ-4B and F-94. They remind me of the best of '70s Airfix. Fit is passable to good, detail is minimal. Decals are useable but could stand replacing if anything better is available. I think they’re a good deal for the price.

I’ve built a few of their World War I armor kits and they’re very good, except for the machine guns. But besides that, they’re really good kits. As for aircraft, I haven’t built any of theirs, but just with my good experience with Emhar armor, I’ve always been tempted to try the there aircraft kits.

I built thier F3H a number of years ago. I remember that it was pretty enjoyable and I was able to finish it off in VF-61 markings. Alas it is no longer of this world.

Here’s some pics I took. Actually my first attempt at this with our new camera. Sorry, they look a little washed out.
The scoop on the F3H is nicely molded grey parts, recessed panel line, basic detail. The key is it’s all there. You can add a PE set (I think I got one from Eduard) to dress it up, especially the cockpit. Superscale has decals for this kit too. It’s a great buy, especially when you consider the high price of some of these recent Czech kit. I still hold out hope they’ll do an FJ-3.

I’ve built both the FJ-4B and the F3H and both were enjoyable builds. The Fury has raised panel lines, good fit but basic detail, especially in the cockpit. The Demon has recessed lines but they are uneven with definite steps between some panels. The wings and fuselage both required sanding to even out the surface detail and the seperate spoilers are best replaced or left off. Again, cockpit details was basic but at least you get a full tub to which you can add PE detail. When I built mine, I just added a seat by Aeroclub which was perfectly adequate considering what little you can see through the “glass”. You can still get Xtradecal sets for both of these kits and I recommend that you that. Hope all of this helps.
