Because I am, and although the cockpit set fit like a dream with little manicuring of the kit parts, I have shaved down the kit parts (actually it’s the same 2 kit parts that require trimming for the wheel bays and the cockpit tub) for the wheel bays according to the diagram provided by Aires and the darn thing still won’t fit. I’ve already created a mini-blister in the kit plastic by thinning a bit too much. I’m just wondering if anyone has ever managed to fit these in here! It’s a darn nice resin set, but if I can’t fit it in then I’m in a bad place. Many thanks anyone and everyone [banghead]
Sorry,
I used the Black Box set on mine. I didn’t bother with any wheel well sets since the only time the doors are open are when the gear is extending or retracting, so whatever detailing is in there is lost.
However, did you try thinning/trimming the resin? I once used the Aires an A-4 wheel well set on a fujimi/esci kit and had to trim both resin and plastic for proper fit.
Thanks wibhi2. I haven’t trimmed the resin much. The cockpit fit without trimming and I didn’t want to blow out a hole in the side of the resin bay by thinning to aggressively, but I think I can thin it a bit and it should help. I’m really confused because the rear resin bay has mounting points for the gear doors and as such appears to have a portion of the EXTERIOR of the aircraft, and the Aires instructions really only show removing the gear doors and other interior structures which would interfere with mounting the resin. So now, after cutting out what Aires shows, I still have the gear door hinge parts visible on the exterior of the kit, flush with some of the exterior fuselage, and now I also have gear door hinge mounting points on the resin bay. Hard to explain I guess, but maybe you get the gist. Perhaps I also need to resect (good fancy surgical term!) the kit gear door hinges, leaving slots from the exterior into the resin wheel bays. And the forward bay is also not fitting. Basically, the problem with both seems to be that what Aires suggests to cut out just will not in any way allow a thinned resin insert to fit, and I may need to do further surgery to the kit parts then they recommend. Anyone else have this problem with Aires, resin bays, or what have you? Misery loves company… [;)]
