I bought one of these to use before I paint. I can never seem to get all the dust off of the kit before I spray it. I noticed what appears to be an oily substance on the inside of the bag so I’m hesitant to use it. What gives?
I have used some before and I notice that it also leaves the plane feeling sticky in a way.
Id just go down to a body shop supply store and buy one of theres all it is, is cheese cloth coated with bees wax and wont leave the model sticky.[2c]
I’ve used gun cleaning patches to good effect for cleaning off mild dust infestations. They have really long fibers (probably something synthetic) which a) don’t shed and b) will remove nearly all dust with one swipe. They have NO wax or oil — they’re just pieces of felt-like stuff with a grain.
They’re available in big bags for cheap. My bag of little patches (about 2 inches square) has 500 patches and cost about six bucks. You can get bigger patches, up to 6 inches square. Presumably the largest size is useful for swabbing out the barrel of your .50-cal. machine gun.
Gun cleaning patches also work much better than Q-tips for dusting completed models, since they don’t shed at all.
Cosmetic Blush brushes are perfect dusters for finished and unfinished models. This is what I use to dust off my models. They are cheap, do not shed, easy to clean, work very well and last a long time.
