I was going through my aircraft models hoard recently, and I came across the Tamiya ‘Dambuster’ Lancaster. Going through the instructions, I noticed that it included a ventral machine gun. I also noticed that there appears to be no aperture for the gun in the fuselage, but that can be probably rectified by careful drilling.
But what really concerned me was the area around where the gun should be. There’s a small raised disc in this area, which is the location for the H2S radar radome, on the non-Dambuster version, but that’s all. Surely there should be some sort of blanking disc for the Dambuster version, instead of this unsightly object? Any photographs of this area are hard to come by, but any I’ve seen from the side seem to suggest a flush blanking plate.
Can anyone shed any light on the subject?
