Anyone building COIN?

I just started on Academy’s cute 1/72 A-37 Dragonfly. Anyone built/building anything similar? Bird Dogs? Super Tucanos? Broncos? It all seems to be a bit WW2 and Su-27 in this forum at the moment [:-^]

Something in me just loves the idea of light aircraft loaded up with high explosives [}:)]

Also, if anyone has good tips on painting USAF SEA four-tone camo, now would be a good time to share!

I have built Monogram’s 1/48 A-37. It has rocket pods and drop tanks hanging from the wings. As far as the camo, I use the scanner blow up the pattern that is usually on the directions, cut out each color, then put the masks on the plane. I use low tack double sided tape to attach the masks. Then use the air brush to paint the areas that are not covered. Let those dry and move on. Seems to work well for me. If I can ever figure out how to put pictures on I will show my A-37.

A couple of years ago ('03 I think) I built Academy’s 1/72 A-37 (with the Black Eagles box art)… A really good kit for the price I think…I did it as an OA-37B from Osan AB…

Additionally I have Monogram’s A-37 with a Black Box Cockpit and Aires P/E set with some decals for 15 or so user countries that is in the stash…

hurrah! glad I’m not the only one! nice model ewc2003, it’ll be interesting to see if the Academy kit has any noticable differences.

MKelley: thanks for the tip, I’d have never thought of blowing the pattern up to scale and using it as a template - I was dreading trying to do it freehand, so I’ll probably settle for a very similar technique!

U-96… it’s the same kit, just with different decals I believe… I thought about picking up the SE Asia A-37 but after looking at the kit they are the same. Recessed panel lines, raised cockpit detail, really good looking for the price… I think I paid $7 for the 1/72 Academy kit…

I have built the 1/48 A37. You may want check out the VNAF web page. There are some accurate camo paterns there as well as lots of other good info. The Revell camo profiles are all wrong. Here’s how mine turned out.

Cheers,

Jerry

Also Academy makes a pair of 1/72 OV-10 Broncos… one with the NOGS for ODS (brown/tan camo) and another with the light gray standard FAC paint scheme…recessed panel lines but the cockpit was pretty bare, and with that much glass it really stood out…

Hi! I finished a few months ago a F.M.A. IA58 Pucará is an argentinean plane designed for COIN tasks, is better know for it´s participation in the Malvinas (falklands) war… the kit I use was a Special Hobby 1/72 scale…

I want to build one of the Argentina´s Tucanos, soon I hope

regards

Jeremias

Skip the A-37’s, Bronco’s, and Tucano’s, how about a PA-48 “Turbo Mustang”! I think that would be awesome. I don’t think there are any kits for it, though…

Scott Willerton

Broadsword, no kits that I could find on a quick search, but an absolutely beautiful conversion on hyperscale: http://hsfeatures.com/features04/enforcerpd_1.htm

dragonfly: thanks for the link, that’s a great build you have there

ewc: sorry I was getting confused with the 1/48 Monogram mentioned earlier. Having said that is your pic the 1/72 Academy? The fuel probe is different on mine?! I also have an undocumented part - A5 which looks like a fuel tank/box - left over… is that used on the more modern variants?

el_jere: of course, how could I forget the Pucara? I saw a captured one in the Imperial War Museum many years ago, a beautiful and practical plane, but no match for the Harrier. I’m glad our relations with Argentina are much friendlier these days.

Yes, is a beatiful ugly bird, jajajaja.

is hard when you think this machines are designed to kill people… and is very sad that that war ever took place, only if the gouverments can (could??) talk…

for the harrier we had the mirages jajaj armed with sticks and stones jajaja.

and yes, of course i´m very happy to have friendlier relationships, and only fight about football jajaja
