Anyone build the Hasegawa 1/72 VF-1 Valk.(Macross)

I was working apace on this one before my Christmas break ended. I like how the plastic is just soft enough for easy sanding and how smoothly everything fits together… and the detail is amazing! The panel lines are crisp and the proportions are perfect (considering this is Hasegawa, what does one expect?)
I intend to attempt my airbrush on it after testing on an F-111A and get some interesting shading and weathering on the VF-J.
Has anyone built one of these what kind of experience was it building and painting it?

I have the kit but I’ve been working on it’s cousin, the Hasegawa battroid version. I finished construction but have yet to give it its finish. It’s a gem of a kit like the fighter kit.

If you have not finished it yet and would to try a different finish for it, www.starshipmodeler.com will be selling assorted marking for the VF-1 in the near future. Look here for a peak:

You have to paint it in sections as you are building it. It was a pain in the posterior.
They build great, and you get looks at “What type of jet is that?” Just if you want
to have it transform: paint it first, build, clean up seam lines, paint again.

I figured it would need painting before full assembly, or it would be impossible to fill the spaces between the arms, gunpod and fuselage, or where the “feet” join the engine pods.

I already made a mistake due to the instructions’ lack of English; I installed the blocks in the arms where the gunpod is supposed to join, and did such a good job that I can’t cut them out again. I will have to sand the peg the gunpod joins between the arms down just enough to wedge in between them. Other than that, I may use part of the weapon set on it and use the rest on a Strike Valkyrie I may order in the near future.
