Any wrecker drivers out there?

Back in my Corps days I drove both the M936 & LVS Mk15 Wreckers. I know that there hasn’t been a model release of the LVS (cousin to the HEMMTT) but I was sure there had been a kit of the 2 1/2 ton chassis recovery vehicle. Any info on kit or conversion set would be greatly appreciated![:D]

lodni_k,

There are a few resin conversion and complete kits for US Army, and Marine wreckers. Model Fan has botha complete and a conversion for the Italerie 5Ton M936 and one for the HEMMTT wrecker, they are pricey. Real Model has a complete resin kit of the M-62 5-ton wrecker, which looks very close to the M816 wrecker I used to operate in the Army. On e-Bay you can find a Revell (I think) 1/32 scale 5-ton wrecker I am not sure of the model number.

I am assuming that the Marines used the same vehicles that the Army had except for changes in the air intake and exhaust systems. We added them when we practiced beach landings.

My NCOs teach the H8 recovery course. We train recovery operators in the use of the M936A2 5 ton wrecker, M984A1HEMTT wrecker, M1089A1 FMTV wrecker and every once in a while we have to train someone on the old M816 5 ton wrecker.

Good muddy boots course.

Thanks, AikinutNY! I did find the site for Real Models, but not for Model Fan. I understand it is a Chech.(sp) company. I wonder how difficult it would be to convert a HEMTT kit to an LVS? - Happy Modeling

Go to Mission Hobbies Web site and look under Hobby Fan The kit number is HF-007 for the M984A1 wrecker conersion for the Italerie Hemmt. Maybe Maj Rob knows what the difference is between the two vehicles. I live near Ft Drum, NY and there are a lot of the older M816 wreckers running around the base.
