Any recommendations for 1/35 Swedish S-Tank?

Lookin’ to build one these in 1/35. Any ones besides Trumpeter’s out there? Pros/Cons? Thanks

Trumpeter does two variants, an Strv 103B and Strv 103C. Really nice kits, there are detail sets and aluminum barrels for them, but you probably won’t need any.

Only other one I can think of is Accurate Armour. Very, very expensive, beautiful resin kit.

Here’s a nice write-up on the Trumpeter kit:

I have the Trumpeter Strv 103C , nice kit , looks great , built out of the box . It’s worth building , plus adds a very unique vehicle , to any collection .

I have the Accurate Armour one, but it comes with no painting instructions or decals. Anyone care to give me a hand?

I built trumpeter’s 103C. I really liked it. As far as I remember there weren’t major fit problems, if at all, and very little flash.
Don’t forget to use a primer as I recall I had a problem with an acrylic but I didn’t primed it.
Also I found the plastic to be somewhat hard and therfore brittle, so be careful.

[:(!][V] There is another resin kit out there other than Accurate or Trumpter avoid it! ! ! Run far away from it! I got so disappointed with the kit I threw it back in the box and buried it in a storage box. Poor quality control, bubbles and major parts of the body halves not formed. Partial dozer blade formed. Did anyone look at this kit when it was being removed from the molds? A blind man would have spotted the problems.

I have been thinking about buying the C and converting it to a D with a 120mm gun, FLIR, reactive armor. A sort of what if the Swedes brought them back. Maybe wire skirts for those RPG’s.

Oh, I forgot to tell you that Osprey’s Modeling postwar tanks book covers the accurate armor strv 103.
The book is good reference if you plan on building the kits featured. I was disapointed because I thought it contained general tips and techniques for building modern tanks, not detailed instructions for a few.

Thanks for the help everybody!

steelsnail: I agree. I got bit on that book too. I bought it mail order and expected a general overview and not “kit-by-kit” builds. Having said that, appreciate the reminder that the S-Tank is in there. Will have to review and see what it says.

My Trumpeter 103C is on the way from GreatModels, (along with some kits for my “rotorhead” fix) looking forward to it.

I bought a Trumpeter Stridsvagn-103C today, which is my first model tank. My father actually served as a driver/gunner in a 103b in 1977. Here are some pictures of the floating device for the S-tank if you want to look: http://www.foreningenp5.com/en/fordon/strv_103c/strv_103c_flytning.htm .

Trumpeter is the only injection moulded game in town. Resin is the only way to go after that, but I’d suggest the Trumpeter kit. Not a bad one at all.

Please, can someone put up the paint recommendations? Better yet, scan and email me the painting instructions? Otherwise, I’lm just going to have a resin-coloured tank…

The Trumpter kit is pretty nice and pretty cheap. Mine built up very nicely.

My modell is coming along fine now and will soon be finnished.
Here i found a video of a strv-103c: http://web.telia.com/~u50015076/multimedia.html
Some facts about Strv-103:
Sweden made som prototypes of a radiocontrolled 103.
When the Leopard 2A5 were bought a prototype of a Strv-103D was made meant to be issued to mechanized brigades but instead used Leopard 2A4 from Germany were choosen over them.
The Strv-103D which at least 1 were built had a much stronger gasturbine.

I just finnished my Strv-103C (bought a Strv-103B to ) but i dont understand how too make the antenna, can anyone tell how please? ,

Trumpeter produces nice kits - both Strv 103B and 103C. You don’t need any after market products. Have a look at finished ones :

Stvr-103C :

Murlbot,

Sweet video! What other changes were done on the 103D prototype? I have one of the Trumpter 103C(unbuilt) and that terrible resin one (I think it was Legend but not sure) and was thinking about doing a D version of my own. Now I guess it will be the E version with a 120 mm gun and some reactive armor and what ever changes I can find from the D. Any more info?

I fell inlove with the little beast when I saw it demonstrated in Germany in the 1970’s.

I found this site: http://home.swipnet.se/~w-42039/COMPTORN.htm Look down a bit and you will find it. And if they would make a Strv-103 with 120 mm cannon it would be called Strv-123, which means third tank with 120 mm cannon.[:D]
