Has anyone seen any info on the release of the 1/48 Sea Knight kit?
I know…I’m a big traitor…I have goofing off alot over at u-boat sites and over at the ‘ships’ section…I can’t help it…This U-BOAT is so gosh darn cool!
Yup!..ain’t nuttin like chopping up a 50.00 dollar model kit! [:p]
I was wondering the same thing myself, as I’m anxious to get my hands on this kit. I’ve had quite a few hops in a Phrog, so I need to put one on the shelf next to the rest of my USMC models.
Luckily for me, it was all training flights, but anytime an 0311 doesn’t have to walk home, he’s happy. 11 years in and counting and this trip to Afghanistan is my first “combat” tour. And I’m out of the bullet sponge business now, too, I get to run the network for my regiment. The flight line here is a who’s who of rotary wing right now, 47s, 53s, 60s, Hueys, Cobras and Apaches on any given day…wish I had my digital out here.
I’m looking to have a whole flightline of USMC airframes on the shelf once I get back home. I was running the perimeter road the other day and could have kicked myself for not bringing my camera. (Neat trick while running) The maintenence folks always have one or two birds opened up when I go by.
We’re taking care of business “out here”, that’s for sure. Thanks for the support.
Good to go! Should be home mid-summer, so maybe the phrog will be on the shelves by then!
Dragonfire, where’d you operate out of while you were here? We just got a reserve 53 squadron in over the last few weeks to add to the Cobras of HMLA-769 (I think) Makes for an interesting flightline. If it has rotors, it flies out of BAF, though we are lacking in 46s right now.
We operated out of FOB Rhino and Kandahar. Friend of mine was deployed with AV-8Bs to BAF for a year. He said that was more fun than a barrel of monkeys.
Papa Echo 64:
The Phrogs the USMC is using is the same version we’ve operated for the last few years (pictures from OIF and OEF are in the news and are readibly available on the web). They are CH-46Es, more powerful engines that the H46D the Navy uses and we have ALQs on the rear, with Chaff/Flare buckets over the stub wings.
So far, so good over here, Dragonfire! We’re due back stateside this summer, at least until our number comes up for OIF…
[#offtopic]Hey, you’ve been to both sandboxes, do you think there should be seperate campaign medals for each?? I’m not chasing chest candy, but I think there should be something to “reward” those units that have been deployed to both theaters. Just wondered what some of the other opinions out there were…
I believe there should be two separate medals. As the MARADMIN stands now, a Marine can rate a battle star (haven’t heard of these since WWII) but it doesn’t denote which campaign he participated in. Not to mention, our brothers that supported OEF Philippines are left out. The GWOT Service Medal are for those that participated in Nobel Eagle, so why not recognize those who served in different “clime and place”.
I’m with you on that one, I think there should be seperate medals to denote service in the different campaigns/theaters, and the GWOT could cover those that are serving in areas that don’t make the headlines (like the Phillipines).
ANYWAY, I’m looking forward to getting home and digging into all the new kits that have come or are coming out, especially anything that I’ve ridden on with USMC markings!
