Now that I have my compressor, airbrush, and Simple Green to wash it, I want to build a spray booth. What kind of fan should I use? What would be the best between an oven fan or bathroom fan? Where should I put it? On top or in the rear of the booth?
Thanks Mike. Just one last thing before I start buying stuff. If I plan to use acrylics paint, I don’t need to get an explosion-proof fan… or would it be better if I get an external mounted motor fan. In other words, if I plan to use only acrylics ( I’ll use enamels later… with another spray booth) would a bathroom fan be ok?
If you use acrylics and don’t thin with alcohol then a bathroom type fan should be alright. If you plan on spraying anything flammable through it I would opt for a squirrel-cage fan with the motor outside the airstream.
hey mike, what about a pc fan hooked up with a belt to a big fan? then hooked up up to some plywood? i have all those around so i can make it for free~~
A computer fan has very little power and could not run something like that.
How about a box fan? You can put a furnace filter in front of it and it will catch the acrylic particles.
Squirrel cage fans are usually for commercial/industrial use. You can find a nice variety at the Graniger website or at your local Grainger supplier. Hope this helps. - Ed
