Here’s a Tamiya F4D in 1/72 scale. I did it out of the box as a “quick-build” after detailing an EA-6B. One of the last ones I managed to finish and photograph before having to move, which has conspired with the summers work travel schedule to drastically slow my model work!!!

Feel free to fire away with comments or questions - but don’t worry if it takes a while to respond. I’m leaving town for a couple weeks and not sure what kind of internet access I’ll have while I’m gone!! [^]
Good build! I built one and was very impressed with the fit of the kit. I literally did NOT use any sandpaper on the seams, a slight scraping with a #11 was all that was needed. In my opinion, the “Ford” was a great plane and VF(AW)-3 took some Air Force awards while they were flying them.
Karl,
Looks great! I’ve never really been into “modern” a/c, but after looking at your F4D, it’s beginning to grow on me. I’m going to give the local hobby shop a call on monday to see if they have one.
Keep up the good work
Cheers,
LeeTree
Hi Karl
Nice one. The only F4D that i have built was the old Lindberg 1/48th one. the first and last Lindberg kit that i ever bought . Thats how impressd with it i was (not). seeing yours has made me tempted to go out and buy one . are the markings out of the box too?..Gregers
Nice Ford, Kolja. Just Beautiful!
Fade to Black…
Nice job. 72 is a tought scale. Looks great.
Murray
Murray is right, that’s a lot of detail for a 1/72 scale kit. Great subject too. Nicely done.
Very nice work.
I have “shyed” away from 1/72 scale but, seeing the detail in yours, I may try my hand.
Nice pictures and nice job! Thanks for posting them; I’ve been toying with buying the kit but hadn’t seen it built up before.
Think I’ll make that purchase on the next “hobby run”.
You should upload those bad boys into the gallery.
Oh yes, VERY nice. I just love the Skyray. I’ve got that kit somewhere in the loft… Well done!
I’m finally back home and just getting caught up on the boards. Just wanted to thank everyone for the kind words!
Gregers- yes, those are kit decals. The dark blue areas are all decal - it took some persistence and patience to get them looking good. I eventually used Solvaset, then scared myself when they started to shrivel, but when I left it alone overnight everything was fine! To touch up areas like the tail leading edge and the wing tips, I used Testors Blue Angel Blue with a little but of Gunmetal Gray mixed in to darken it down.
