Hi all,
I am building a B-25B Doolittle Raider in 1/72 scale. I am getting close to that paint period, and am wondering the best way to paint the green top over the grey camo bottom…should I paint the bottom first? What is the best way to mask it so that I have that nice uneven demarcation line? I have a single and double action airbrush, but I suck with the double action (like I said, newby). Anyway, any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated! Thanks for everyones help up to this point![:)]
You might try using rolled tape in “snakes”, or Parafilm-M likewise to set your edge, and then shoot across it for a feathered edge. I use a double-action brush, but I still am masking everything I don’t want to be the color in the airbrush.
I’ve always been told to paint lighter colors first. Parafilm works great for the demarcation lines, I’ve tried it. The other thing I like to do is adjust my pressure settings on my brush to get a good thin line and free hand at an angle away from the lighter color, when I have a wide enough “barrier” between the two colors I turn the pressure back up a little and complete the paint job. Something I read in FSM once said you can cut templates for you demarcation lines (or camoflauge) roll some small pieces of masking tape (sticky side out) and stick your templates where you want them, the templates will rise from the surface about 1/8" creating a softer line when you spray across them.

THe best technique I’ve seen involves… light cardboard and some kidn of takcy substance(like silly putt)
you cut the shapes you want…then place them on the plane…spraying along hte edges…then fill in the color…
you prolly want to paint your base color first though
