Another Mad proposal!

Sunday 16 January 2005… Mad Komet Day.

“Komet” as in Messerschmitt Me-163 Komet, in all its guises. 24 hours to build a 1/72 replica!

Academy, Heller, Airfix, Huma Models… A fairly simple kit, a fairly simple design, and several simple colour schemes to chose from, or for the added challenge, the camouflaged variants!

Plenty of time to research the subject and locate a kit.

No excuses!

Who is in???!

It’s becoming a mad…mad…world.[:D]

Don’t know…still going to see how MFD goes.

No thanks, It takes me longer than that to open the box & look at the instructions [:D].

Regards, Rick

Plenty of time to get decided!

If I pick the Heller kit, do I have to finish the nifty ground handling equipment that comes with it? Or do I get a handicap on that?

I’ll give you 20 extra minutes for the trolley, Sharkskin. By the way, Academy’s also come with trhe trolley!

Yes, but Academy’s kit falls together easily, I’ve never known a Heller kit to do so

Uhhh… some of the models I spend months on look crappy… I can’t imagine what it’d look like if I only did it in 24hrs.

LOL!!! [(-D] I know exactly how you feel! Sorry, Domi, but I’m in MFD already… besides, i can’t deal with all the little splotches on the fuselage! [;)]

DJ have you been at the cider again?

A Komet?

It’s not even one colour, unless you count Spate’s(I think?) Red Baron job…

…now there’s a thought.

Might fit well with Mad Fokker day?

Academy kit no good for that one though as incorrect armananent and weapon covers on the wing.

Karl

Wait, wait…back up. I get 20 minutes for the ground trolley? With the inflatable balloons and everything? That little Heller kit has lots of stuff in there for a little Komet. There’s also a tiny 1/72 Kettenkraftrad. Also, anybody using the red scheme is a dirty, rotten cheater. Yeah, you heard me, a cheater. And a crybaby. Nyah, nyah, nyah. Gird up your loins, use acrylic paint, and get to splotchin’.
Meanwhile, I’ll monitor all this from the web site.

MMmmm… Thought the all-red scheme for the Komet V41 would be a popular choice! There are other Komet prototypes in mostly monotone schemes…

The splotching is easy to do, even without an airbrush! Use a tiny bit of a sponge to do the job! Easy peasy! And the tractor is NOT included in the build, since not all Komet kit provide it.

Now, if you bumped this up to 1/48, we could all do the old Testors/Hawk kit, which has about 7 parts, counting the canopy, and is still in production. Then we could bring the time down to two hours. That would give acrylics and most cements time to dry. If it’s going to be an insane project, why be half-assed about it?

hey, i almost forgot about this thread…
gotta stop scheduling the Mad Days on Sundays, LOL !
i already have the academy Komet in 1/72, so i’ll b building that one
around the same time as this, & w/ the sponge technique as suggested…
it should b fun 2 try !

frosty[:)]

cmon guys, it’s dead easy. I finished the base construction of a 109 in 6 hours, including breaks, and painted it in 2.

hmm, I’ll have to thinks about it, but I’m in so many GB’s that it wouldn’t surprise me if I forgot one of them to start [:)]

I’m doing some research on this, guys and gals… Watch this space …

Was doing some reading on a komet site the other day, and it appears most early Komets were painted RLM76 all over, only gaining a darker mottling, possibly RLM75, on the tail fin later.

That would be pretty easy to do.

Karl

I’m not building a 1/72 komet from a kit. I’m going to scratch build it. Djmodels can I have an extra week?

1337, scratching a Komet??? But why?? All variants can be found in kit…!? Just for the extra kick?? But if you go ahead, then you can start a week before the rest of us!
