This is the Classic Airframes Vampire Mk5 modified with the Mk3 wing tips representing a 442 Sqn, City of Vancouver Reserve air force aircraft from the 1950s. The kit was a bit of a problem in a few areas but the beautiful resin goodies made up for some of the fit problems.
All RCAF Vampires were painted with Aluminum nitrate dope and there was no weathering. The nose art represents the Haida Indian Bat symbol and the interesting part was that no two aircraft were the same.
The decals were the Arrow Graphics sheet provided by Flightdecs…fantastic service too.
Thanks Rick and Jon. One thing is certain and that is the RCAF had some very interesting paint jobs. From zapping a USN P2V-7 with RCAF markings during a Friday night beer bash to “redecorating” an RCN Destroyer Escort, we could always be counted on to liven things up.
Beautiful work on the Vamp, Barney! That is an unusual aircraft, done in an even more unusual livery! Did you use AlClad on her, or Model Master paint. possibly? The finish is superb! A winner on all counts, thanks for sharing with us!
Brian…I used Alclad II Duraluminum over Alclad Grey Primer over lots of Tamiya putty. And you need three hands to be able to assemble the booms and tail so that everything lines up.
