I just purchased and received a 1/72 c-141 model from anigrand, and boy was I depressed, the price of $198.00 is way to high for a model of this poor quaility, the basic fit is horrible the mounting posts break off if you look at them wrong the seams are big enough to drive a truck through and there are almost non-existent panel lines. I don’t think I will ever buy from this company again, has anyone else had better luck?
Hello hardihorse,
I purchased the 1/72 Hiller VZ-1 Pawnee and was very disenchanted when it arrived the resin had large holes in it and detail broken off, very poor quality overall. If I ever do decide to build it there will probably be more styrene then resin when finished.
I certainly will not buy one of their products again.
Regards,
Thom
I got their 1/72 C-17. About the same, really, as far as quality goes. I have dozens of bubbles to fill and a lot of scribing to do on the panel lines, as well as some corrections on the panels. I have not done much to it so far, but I did add some detail to the cockpit from an F-15 PE set. Oh, and I hate the clear resin glass; I just may vac-form a new one.
Mine is a beast of a kit, as I’m sure most Anigrand kits are, but the draw is the rarity. There are no other 1/72 C-17 or -141’s (maybe a vac-form, but I won’t build that), which is why I got mine. Even if someone kits an injection C-17 in 1/72nd, I doubt I will buy it since I’ve already spent $200 on mine and I don’t have room for 2 in my house. If you want a rare subject that they have, you don’t have much of a choice.
I’ve not built on of their large kits, but I did build their 1/72 XP-60.
I enjoyed the build- it was my first resin kit- but it was on the very, very outer edge of what I thought was a reasonable cost versus quality ratio. At $38, it was steep for 31 parts, but it didn’t have as much detail as many 1/72 kits that cost only 20% of what the XP-60 did.
Still, given the fact that I wanted to build an XP-60, and I learned a lot from it, I was happy with it in the end.
Hopefully the build experience will be a good one for you to take some of the edge off of the cost.
I built their 1/72 XP-67. It was a fun little build. Yes there were air bubbles and a little pebbly finish but it was nothing that your customary filling and sanding skills couldn’t overcome. Maybe I had a bit better luck due to the smaller size than the C-141. Smaller size…less room for error on Anigrand’s part. Either way, I was extremely happy with their kit and I’d buy from them again. Now I’m eyeing up their B-49 since I read a great review about that and their Jetmaster.
As mentioned before, they have a lot of rare subjects that you just can’t find anywhere else. I’m sorry your kit turned out to be a nightmare. [:(] Was it the first kit you’ve ordered from them? I think the problems you’re experiencing are almost to be expected with large resin kits but you’re right…at the price you pay for them, we should expect just a bit higher quality.
Oh well, we get what we get. I’ll tell you one thing. Building a couple of Anigrand’s kits has definitely been a good learning experience for me in terms of working with resin and even doing some scratchbuilding (which I never do). Maybe working on your C-141 kit will be a great learning experience. I surprised myself with the outcome of my kits. I’ll bet you’ll have the same positive experience. When life hands you lemons, make lemonade! LOL!
