Today was the “Soft Opening” of the new Andy’s HHQ store in Tolleson. Let’s just say that the new store is much bigger than his original shop in Glendale (which will remain open for business)
The outside still lacks signage, so you have to know where you’re going for now, but that will be changed soon. Anyways, here are a few photos
and what I’m really jazzed about beside this being closer to home for me is that there is a meeting area to the left side when you come in where clubs can have their meetings. AZ AMPS will meet there in May on our usual second Saturday of the month.
They are not yet ready to open full time, as today a few bugs needing to be worked out were discovered, but stand by for when the “Grand Opening” will happen. If you’re in the Phoenix area, stop on by and check us out. If your in on a Monday, Tiesday, or Wednesday, stop in and say Hello, I’ll be working in the back in the partner business’ warehouse.
Outstanding Carlos! That is great that you have such a great place to shop, and have your club meetings. The store looks amazing with that huge sign, and all of those great kits.
I would get in a lot of trouble in there
Schmidty, I can’t imagine living in a hobby desert like you describe North Dakota. Some of my pre requisites for moving here to the Phoenix area after I retired were that there were model clubs and hobby shops…
SM66, yeah you and me both about getting in trouble here. Nowadays most of my hobby budget is spent on tools, paints, and aftermarket, since I do have a very ample stash.
Wow that’s neat! That place is huge! I’ll have to check out Andy’s webpage, I’d like to support a guy that puts this much effort into others, even though I’ll never make it there unless he sets up a shop in the pacific NW. so cool though.
Well if I ever find myself in Arizona again, I’ll make a point to stop in here.
Hmmm, checks notes. Texas A&M football is slated to play against Arizona State on September 11 in 2027. Perhaps I can convince the wife for a road trip to that game.
But, my only previous trips to Arizona included a trip to Hoover Dam, where I stood along the State lines, and many years before that, a family vacation took us to the Grand Canyon and then across the State on the way back to Texas. I don’t honestly know where ASU is. Is it remotely close enough to allow for a stop at this shop?
Glad that you like it guys! The place is definitely worth a visit just to see the variety of stuff. There is a good sized Gundam/Anime section for those who like that area of model building or collectibles.
Aggie, ASU is located in Tempe, around 30 minutes or so driving time from this place.
The best model shop in my area is some tiny run-down store run by some old guys, so it’ll probably go out of business soon sadly. Hundreds of models crammed into a couple rooms, its got character at least.
Got a daughter who lives in Phoenix area and this would make a second reason to visit. First, of course is grandchildren.
My daughter and her husband I guess fall in with #1, but that’s only because…
@stikpusher Thanks for that info. Definitely in range if we happen to make the trip for the football game. But it will depend on how the team is doing. After last season’s face-plant after entering November in 1st place all by themselves (lost 4 out of 5, including to the hated t-sips), I’ve decided this season to save that $$$ of tickets/travel.
As of today, the store will be open for business, with a fancy Grand Opening coming in a few weeks. Stop on in if you’re in the area and feed your hobby habit
