an unusual build for me. (with pics)

a while ago i did this build for a group build on another site. this is the first modern a/c i have done. the finish is bmf. there are a few wrinkles here and there. i am not sure i showed this here but here we go.

may i present the hasegawa f-104c starfighter strait out of the box.

Saw this before, and as before, it is an excellent build to look at, and an awesome job ion the BMF! Joe, this is one to be proud of.

I see what you mean about the wrinkles, but it looks pretty darn good. It’s weird building modern aircraft, isnt it?

Fightnjoe that is a very nice one oh four. I love the colorful century jets and I really like your starfighter. I have not tried a bare metal aircraft as of yet but when I do I would like to try the 104 or the Hun. Happy modeling[8-]

Better than your first efforts at foil Joe. You’re making progress [:)]

Yeah i see about the wrinkles. I would stick with alclad for the NMF. To be honest, I’ve seen you put forth better efforts. Your emil for example was excellent.

Is the wrinkling from too thick an application perhaps? Just asking, I haven’t tried BMF, but I have a P-38 that will get it soon. It still looks good, regardless.[:D]

naw I’ve had the same wrinkling problem solution is when you start to lay it down gently pull on it with one hand while smothing it down with your finger then gently burnish the foil to conform with your panels. Another method is to tear it into small pieces and burnish as you go. Burnishing will hide the seams that appear on each overlapping piece.

Love the 104, thanks for the pics…

i do thank you for your comments. this is my fourth foiling job. this is by far the best. i did small sections and spent time with it. i do believe this is my best foil effort so far. the wrinkles are part of the process that takes a very long time to get right. at least in my opinion. the thickness of the application really doesnt seem to be it. and it was very difficult to imagine me doing modern. boy it felt strange.
