What I have here for you is an old time Monogram 1/48 P-47. Brush painted in Testors Olive Drab enamel over ModlMaster Light Grey enamel. the interior surfaces are done in Testors Chromate Yellow enamel. The Red areas front and rear, as well as the White stripes were done with rattle cans as those two colors are just an absolute nightmare for hand brushing.
The decal sheet really scared me when I first got hold of the kit because of it’s age and condition but actually went down without too much drama.
I have Tamiya’s P-47 in the stash because I’ve heard SO MANY good things about it, but I have to admit that there is just something about an old school Monogram that feels oh so right on the build table.
I searched a while for “Little Chief” and was very pleased to finally find it. What a fun build. And to be honest, I flat out love the dark shade of the Testors Olive Drab. It gives the Jug such a strong, workman-like look.
A Mustang, 109, or Spitfire may have that elegant, “Rapier” look to them, but what can stand up to a brutal 2x4 to the face that the Thunderbolt represents?
Thank You for looking.
Regards, PWB.
Nice job on that classic kit - and you could probably build a small airforce of them for the price of the Tamiya kit.
I agree with your assesment of the T-Bolt’s appearance - especially the Razorback version - very tough looking, and from what I’ve read - it’s toughness in battle matched it’s appearance.
Nice work.
Chris
Nice work on the venerable old kit. Was a standout in it’s day & still holds up pretty well, though surpassed by the Hasegawa & especially the Tamiya kits. Thanks for sharing.
Regards, Rick
Nice job. I have a couple of those old Mongram kits. Personally, I always liked their 1/48th stuff.

Thank You, Gentlemen.
‘EasyMike’,
I’m a real fan of the 1/48 as well.
We’re probably showing our ages.

Nuthin’ wrong with that oldie but goodie… Nice work…
Thank you, ‘Hans’.
You and I are of the same mind when it comes to the Monogram kits. Not only were they good builds, but the inclusion of the Shepard Paine dioramas was one of the best features any manufacturer ever gave us.
As much as we pay now, it seems a shame no one wants to emulate that.
Never met a Monogram kit I didn’t like, lol…
Looks nice, PWB! These old Monogram kits are fun, you can make 'em as detailed as you like, or keep it simple. Even out of the box, they look good.
I’m building Klibbe’s mount right now, as a matter of fact, same kit, too, except I got mine second-hand, and the clear parts and decals were missing, so I’ve got a Squadron canopy and EagleCal decals. The bubbletop is also on the bench, and I have another Monogram razorback in the stash. Just can’t decide which markings to use…
