I’ve got to say I really love the Finescale.com forums. I’ve learned a lot here, seen a lot of cool stuff.
That said, I think it would be great if there were a forum here where, for example, if you lost or messed up a part, say for an OOP kit, you could post on the board, and maybe find someone who had an extra of that part in their spares box, etc…
I posted this because I lost the instrument panel decal for my current project and it seems like a waste to spend $14+shipping on a detail set when all I need is a decal that I KNOW someone has in their spares box…
(With that said, anyone got a spare instrument panel decal for a Hasegawa 1/48 P-47D? Please email me at markleon@hotmail.com!!)
I’ve seen a few people here who have posted about lost/messed up parts, I think that would be something useful…
It’s your lucky day! I just happen to have the decal you’re looking for. Just send me $14 plus shipping and I’ll shoot it right out to you. OK… just jokin. I’m going to do a P-47 for a GB and I’ve already aquired a resin CP so I won’t be using the kit decal. It’s yours if you want it. E-mail me at drgnfly@neo.rr.com
Anyone have any thoughts on my suggestion? I’m not sure how to contact the board moderators to send them my suggestion, anyone want to point me in the right direction?
Gator that’s a great idea. Admittedly I’m yet to find myself in that situation (but surely it’s only a matter of time) however this OOB forum would undoubtedly be a great help to many modellers out there who (like yourself) are unwilling to part with large sums of money for a single part. Perhaps the FineScale god will smile on your plea…?
That said, Airfix’s parts replacement service has been good to me over the years, and I’ve heard good things about numerous other kit companies…
Rick is perfectly correct in regards to buying, selling or trading as a commercial venture. However I think Gatormark91’s request comes under an exception to the rules.
From the thread titled Posting of Advertisements (pertinent section in bold):
In this case we have a member who is searching for a replacement part from another member. Unless I’m completely off-base, a request such as this would be allowed.
Any moderators wish to chime in and confirm or deny?
From my previous experience, instituting an idea or trade on the forums is fine. After that, however, switch it to an E-mail ASAP, to iron out the details. You achive the same result, and there’s really no problem with it.
(Knock on wood. No one in charge upstairs has tapped me on the back yet.)
