First off, let me apologize for the issues with the forums being offline for the past few months.
When we acquired Kalmbach in May, we didn’t anticipate the level of technical issues that would exist on the platforms. There was a substantial amount of tech debt that had built up over the years.
We never expected the forums to go down. There was so miscommunication internally where the forums didn’t get the attention they deserved.
This is on me - I regret that these issues happened and more regretful that we didn’t communicate the status.
Rest assured, the forums are important to us. The new system is far more stable and built on a new platform, the issues you experienced before should not happen on this system.
I hope you will give us the opportunity to earn your trust back.
Hello!
Thanks a lot for your message, Craig! Me and a few hardcore-old-fsm-forum-members - we were wondering about what’s happening and we had a hard time understanding the situation. It’s good to see the forums working now and as a person who was onboard with the last - say 4 or 5 forum software changes - it is working surprisingly well. For the first time it is also clear why a software change was necessary.
The only question now is how many of the old members we can get back to writing here. Let’s see!
Thanks again and have a nice day
Paweł
This is entirely new platform, with legacy content.
It’s shocking how bad the old forums were, but that’s in the past and we are looking forward.
My goal is to learn about the community and be a resource to make sure that I have visibility into what you guys expect of us. I welcome feedback on how to make our products better.
We have a campaign that will kick off in January that is intended to drive participation and engagement. Our hope is that it does just that.
No, it wasn’t modeled after Kitmaker. The similarity is that Kitmaker Network is also using the same plaform we are (or vice versa depending on your POV), Discourse. It’s a robust solution and easy to use and maintain. We’re all very pleased with how it’s turned out and looking forward to what we as a community will be able to do with it. The FSM Forum is back! But that’s not all. Remember, there’s a whole brand of which this is a single component, and we’re leaning into and looking toward the future. This is merely a taste.
Craig,
Everything about that post was spot on IMO. Accountability, the promise and asking for an opportunity to make things right. This is only the second post that I’ve read from you, and I can already see leadership in action and that you & your team are headed in the right direction by putting the members first.
Looking forward to seeing this place get put back together…and then some.
No, FineScale.com is not dead. Visitors are no longer required to log into it to view the its contents. There is new content posted to FineScale.com almost every day and sometimes multiple times a day. With that said, there will be changes to FineScale.com coming in the future, and when we have those scheduled, we’ll keep everyone informed of the improvements.
Tim, I am having the same issue with finescale.com. When I try to log in I get the first message. I tried to register and got the second message, and if I try to reset the password I get the 404 error.
Yes. There’s no need to log in on the website anymore. And with the new Forum up, we’ll remove that from FineScale.com. It is a legacy log in that was there so members could still log into the old Forum before it was frozen. We’ll get it taken care of ASAP.
All of the content FineScale.com is currently available without logging in. You only need to log in for the new Forum, but you do that here, not on FineScale.com.
Tim, it told me I had to log in to comment on the review of the PQ-14 and I was a good boy and tried that. I’ll go back and see if I actually can comment.
Thanks
All of these things are tied together. Because there is no logging in on FineScale.com anymore, the comments are disabled. When we replatform the website, which is coming, these capabilities will be restored. Until then, anything that has to do with logging in on the website has been disabled.
I actually work in the IT world, so I understand these issue happen, and sometimes it’s a real tough job to get everything back and old stuff converted. I’ve been on the fsm forum for a long time, like many who commented here. Glad to have you guys back and best of luck. The new forum is so much better - I means besides being able to actually connect
Ahhh soooo. I shall retreat until the new awakening at finescale.com.
I manage my own website and occasionally another and sometimes the most inexplicable things can happen, especially when I keep updating a file and mistakenly save it in the wrong directory. Where did my changes go? Why isn’t the code working
Thanks so much for acknowledging what happened and accepting responsibility for it. As one who felt either ignored if not abandoned your post means a great deal. Thank you and the best of luck going forward.
