There are two very similar ford galaxie kits being put out by AMT. The 1966 Gal (red car on the box) and 1965 (blue car with modern DUB-type wheels). Both cars look nearly the same. I read the review on the '66 on this site but ther isn’t one for the '65. Has any one seen what’s in this kit? how is it? I plan to pick up one of the two this week. Also can anyone tell me anything about the '69 Galaxie with the hide away head lights? Can it only be built stock or does it havfe extra “goodies”?
well on the hide away headlights it technically word be a ford ltd not actually a galaxie
but as the 65/66 goes if you built 1 you built both
also check the archives here or scale auto (their sister site) archives one of them did a review on the 69
I just wondered waht extra bits might come with the '65 and '66. Funny you should say that about Scale Auto. I just found Scale Auto today and signed up thanks for the heads up!. Yeah you are right about the LTD thing because when i saw the kit Iwas think it was an LTD but it said galaxie. Same deal with the AMT Duster that is really a Dodge Dart.lol I’ll got cheack out that review. Thanks!
the duster was a plymouth a valiant under the skin
the demon was the dodge a dart underneath
valiant one of my favorite cars of all time
Is the scale auto site new? There were VERY few reviews. There was one on the Duster. I am still undecided on the Galaxie but I have my Hobby lobby coupons and I am on my way to the store on my luch break!LOL
no been around a couple of yrs
Well got my '69 Galaxie. Haven’t had a chance to fully check out the contents but what the review says is true about the wheels. they are a set of deep shelb 'stang type wheels. How strange…
Shelby/stang wheels on a Galixie is not strange at all. Back then you could order your car the way you wanted it. You could order those wheels on just about anything Ford made. That Galixie could be ordered with a 7 liter V-8 (428 or 429 cid I think) . Bucket seats and a 4-speed trans were also common as well as a choice of (IIR) three rear end ratios. Add the police package suspension, disc brakes, radiator, and alternator and you had one hot ride. I had a close friend who ordered the Shelby/stang Cobra Jet 429 for his Galaxie with the 4 speed and posi-traction rear end and the police suspension and cooling package, and the Shelby/stang wheels . Bright red with white leather interior and a white vynal top. Man what a ride.
those were the days
you could actually order a car they way you want
Man that sounds sweet. Well i’ll build mine with the Shelby wheels with black paint. Maybe red or white leather interior. In fact I have it here at work with me at my desk so I can go over the parts. I see already that ther are no Cobra valve covers so I can use some I have left over from a '65 mustang kit if they will fit. I know that isn’t a Cobra Jet but I think I can live with that.lol (then again it does come with some monster size crome covers. Decision decisions…
