AMT/Ertl

Am I correct in assuming that AMT/Ertl kits are no longer being produced? If so would anyone know of were to possibly find any of their 1/72 kits? I have found a couple that I am looking for on oldmodelkits.com and I’m sure there is of course evilbay. Just hoping someone might know of any other sites.

Try Amazon. Old stock stuff shows up on there as well.

AMT/Ertl has been defunct for a while. 1999 was pretty much the end, when Racing Champions purchased the company and began to stop making anything but die cast. Some of the sci fi and car kits that used to be made by MPC and AMT/Ertl are now being produced by Round 2 models. At one time, AMT/Ertl was a prolific re-boxer of ESCI kits, which is where most, but not all of the military aircraft and armor in those boxes came from.

Round 2 has repopped some of the old aircraft molds, but nothing of interest. I wonder if they still have the b-52 and KC-135 molds?

Somewhere out there, there are tons of ESCI/ERTL/AMT kits. In the early to mid 90’s, Toy Liquidators (a toy store in the outlet malls when they were the big thing) was selling dozens upon dozens of AMT kits for literally pennies on the dollar. Oh for the those days again! I still think their Phantoms, in both 1/72 and 1/48, were a great value. They can be turned into very nice looking models. If I had it to do over again, I would have scooped up more. Getting back to the post at hand, they are out there somewhere.

See that’s the thing that makes me sad. I was looking for a B-52 and KC-135, but the one I am really searching for is the RC-135. I was given a kit of the RC-135 by a bunch of the aircrew members that knew I built models when I was flying with the 488th IS and the 95th RS. I was never able to build the kit because I was holding off so I could build a really cool dio with it and a EP-3 and a E-6 since those were the main three platforms I flew on when I was in the Navy. Unfortunately I lost it when my parents shop burned down with 5 generations of family heirlooms and all my stuff from my years in.

Italeri reissued the B-52 kit at least once in the late 2000s. Don’t think it has been out since. Not much of a loss, other than being the only game in town for a late model B-52; it was a lousy kit. Frankly the Monogram B-52D from the 1960s is a better model.

Italeri also reissued the KC-135A too, which you might be able to find out there. I don’t recall them reissuing any of the recon/special purpose variants that AMT and AMTech did with the mold, though.

One of the recent repops is the Stinson Reliant. This is one of their better kits, and the Reliant is among the most beautiful of golden age civil aircraft.

Umhm; ive seen this bad-boy pop up at a few of my no-so-local hobby shops. I keep meaning to pick one up, but I wind up blowing my modeling budget on paints and such LOL

Italeri took over most of the aircraft line when Ertl stopped making aircraft. The KC-135 has also been packaged by Heller (no, not the 707). I don’t believe the EC or RC kits have been reissued, however. There are currently four AMT EC-135C “Looking Glass” kits on eBay, but no RCs right now.

Heller and Italeri have both reboxed the kC-135
