AMT/ERTL 1963 Shelby Cobra 289

Ok

Got this kit recently at a club auction and wife saw it, and liked it, now I have to builder it for her.[:)]

As I mostly builder armor and this will be my first car kit. Couple of questions.

The box photo shows the car done in a blue color, but the instruction do not say what color blue this is. Any ideas? (I’m thinking powder blue).

Also, anything to watch out for when detaching chrome parts from the sprue? (I will of course be using snippers.) Should I paint the chrome parts? Maybe with Aclad II?

Finally, any suggestions on glues? I have Weld On 3, Tenax, Locite Gel CA and other CA’s.

Thanks in advance

Scott

The original blue was called “Guardsman Blue” and was a regular for Shelby cars. Here is a good example.

As far as the chrome, it sounds like you already know what to do. You can paint the areas where the chrome comes off from clipping them from the sprues, or you can dechrome the parts, remove any mold lines and repaint with Alclad II. Much better look that way, but a lot of work.

Any of those glues will be fine, just use what you are most comfortable using. Personally, I don’t like to use CA unless I’m attaching a part where I can’t remove the paint.

Have fun and glad to have you come over from the ‘dark side’!
