I’ve got another Maverick build in the works but I just couldn’t help myself when I saw AMT/ Round 2 come out with their newest re-pop of an old fave of mine a couple of months ago. After my Me-262 jet build I’ve made up my mind that this will be my next one. the kit as alot going for it in the fact taht there’s updated decals, cleaner molds and pad printed tires.
and I managed to pick up a small PE fret for it:
I’ve been wanting to build one of these anyhow since I owned 3 different '67 Coupes. My last one was my favorite as it had a 351W with a 4spd and 3.55 gear AND it just so happened to be the same Acapulco Blue that the fastback on the box top art is. Fun car and I had a LOT of fun driving it through the years.
This is the only picture I can find of the engine as of right now and this is in car #2. A 351W from a '69 Mach 1 car with four barrel heads, Comp Cams 280H cam, MSD Unilite ignition, and a Holley 650 Double Pumper ( I had later on installed a Performer RPM intake on this engine in car #3). It also had 11:1 compression which I wouldn’t advise doing that to a street engine to anyone after having this one. I had to run some HIGH octane fuel at all times to keep the detonation problems at bay. This engine did make this car haul like a scalded assed ape though.
Get started! Can’t wait to see what you do with this one. I’ve owned a few over the years, currently a 2013 Boss 302 LS and I have the kit. I actually have about 5 Mustang kits so let see you work your magic.
Thanks John!! You outta post some pics of your Boss. I’d love to see that!!
Good news!!! I found me some BONUS SHOTS of my old car!!! I’m currently doing a bathroom renovation to our master bathroom and needed some tools that were hidden away in the “house toolbox” by my wife. While looking for the tools I found a small plastic photo box with…a whole load of pictures of my old Acapulco Blue Mustang PLUS a slew of negatives that I’ll be taking to the local photo developer here in town to have the pictures printed up with. Frickin’ SCORE!!!
Here are those missing pictures of my 69 Mach 1 351W in my '67 while it was under construction. Man…I haven’t seen these things in 10 years now. Now…what the hell were they doing in the dang tool box for???
Change the color to Bronze Pearl Metallic and make it a FastBack and you then have MY Mustang. Oh, I had a 68 Mercury mill and a Borg-Warner four Speed in mine. You know That was to me, the BEST Ford design they ever produced.
Mine had Bendix Discs on all four corners with Borroni Wire Wheels too. With real Knock-offs. Why That’s what I wanted the end car to be like. That was the only car I ever did all that to. Great looking model too. Enjoy!
Looking forward to this build. BTW Unilite is Mallory not MSD, not to nit pick just FYI… I’ve built a few 67-68 Mustangs in my time and used both MSD and Mallory Unilite.
Tell me a bout it, I let go of my 1967 S code 390 fastback in January 2007 and my 1968 390 Highland Green fastback in 2008… kicking myself ever since. I got the kit you picked up and I’m going to make a copy of my dream car as an inspiration/template.
I mat be a bit on the late side but, I’m here to be following along now. Love this Mustang. I am pumped to see you work on this one. Everything so far looks like it’s line with the Joe’s amazing standards.
Sorry folks, no awesome Mustang ownership stories here. I drove VW’s most of my life.
