AMT ‘62 Catalina WIP

I picked this kit up at the Chattanooga IPMS show on the 14th. I don’t know why but I’ve always liked the look of the Pontiacs of the era, maybe because they aren’t Chevys…:winking_face_with_tongue:

Anyway, it was $10.00, so why not?

I got way more than I expected with regard to detail, and fit has been great so far!

Normally, you start with the engine, but one look at the interior and I knew it was going to be a challenge and fun at the same time. So I started there.

Next I painted up the inner wheel wells, undercarriage, and gas tank.

All the interior is built on top.

I use almost exclusively lacquer and enamel paints, but on the interior I decided to experiment. I used Apple Barrel water based craft paint from Walmart. It took several coats to cover, but with a little patience, the result was acceptable.

That’s all for now. Thanks for looking!

Dear farfar. Looking real good. Your interior is super and experimenting with paint is good. I’ve used craft paint on armor models but not on an auto. That Pontiac is one of my favorite kits. Good luck and send more pictures. If I keep looking at your build I’ll want to start another car soon and I’ve got too much in work right now.
