This is a combination build from an AMT 1961 Ford Galaxie and a 1960 Ford Starliner. Being that the Galaxie is an old curbside I wanted to make a nicer model out of it. I started by removing the hood from the 61, thinning it down and adding underhood bracing to it. I then started fitting the 60 chassis to the 61 body. Surprisingly it didn’t need a lot of work. The package tray needed revision and the floor pan needed to be trimmed and shortened. The stock windshield insert wouldn’t work with the new chassis so I built a buck out of maple and formed a new one. I also had to modify the firewall. By the time I removed all of the flash from the bumpers it was time do redo them with Alcad. The car was painted with Boyd’s dark red and all of the trimwork was done with Bare Metal Foil. I cleared everything with Future and then polished it. The baby moons, beauty rings and antenna were machined from aluminum.
Very nice Classic! I used to laugh at the big sleds when I was a kid. Pony, Muscle and Sport cars were all that caught my eye. Now I look at the Galaxies and Catalinas and such with auto lust!
Very nice 61. And guys, before the pony cars or muscle cars there were the “sleepers”. Think about it. A Catalina with a 389 with tri-power, a Belair with a 409 with 2 four bbls, a Galaxy with a 430 Lincoln motor. The sedans of the late 50s ond early 60s were some neat hot rods. A guy could pull up next to you in a non descript Belair 4 door and have a punched out 409 under the hood. Back then you could order your car to your specifications. You could get a stripped down coupe with a big block and a 4 speed trans and a rear end gear ratio of your chosing.
Seeing your Galaxy brings back a lot of fond memories. I like the Muscle cars but those old big body coupes are still my favorites. Thanks for sharing your model work.
Great job on a most difficult kit. I’m almost finished with a Revell 64 TBolt which is a real charm and looks so sweet. Now I hope I don’t ruin it LOL…
