Since I have the 1/350 scale Enterprise Refit from TMP I wanted to get some experience with how all that’s going to work, especially with the painting, so I figured the Enterprise B would be a good place to expermient… Fingers crossed!
FYSA - Cleaning up the neck gridlines is a challenge.
Yeah I saw that
I glued that section together and got filler in there. But now have to clean it up ![]()
Starting prepping pieces for light blocking
Cut out section for bussard collectors
To accomplish this I had to make my first custom modeled parts using UV clear resin
Curing the resin
Parts:
Plan is to make lights in the engine power up, the bussard collectors with have some animated variance in them, and when the engine is powered up, instead of just coming on all at once, the light will get be animated from progress from from to back. So about 26 neopixel LEDs spaced real close.
The “grill” clear part will be painted clear blue for effect. The the outsides painted in color, and then then the internal lines etched off, hopefully that works, so the internal lighting bleeds through in nice tight lines.
the nacelle
- needs to be light blocked
- interior painted white (X2)
- exterior primed
- lights need to be cut and wired in, wires on one side need to be fed back down to the other nacelle because the neopixel lights need to all be chained together
- the top part of nacelle needs to be masked to allow clear section on top for lighting (not 100% sure if that’s official cannon but I think it looks cool)
Some progress, got the light blocking paint mostly done.
Grill painted black, will add a more metallic gun metal, then make it matte. And then scrape off paint for the lower engraved lines
Marked lights for saucer
Drilling 0.4mm holes for fiber optics
Grill lights…
The upper thin line of light, that’s going to be repeated for all the inner lines, and the light will light up from front to back when it’s all working. But the light blocking and etching off the paint works.
Nice creative problem solving! I’m following along.
