Amelia Earhart Lockheed Electra 10

Good news from Daniel Brett at Williams Brothers. He sent me an e-mail on Monday saying the Amelia Earhart Lockheed Electra 10 is back in production and should be ready for shipping by the end of the week. It’s an odd scale 1/53 but I don’t mind. I have placed my order. This one will be a Christmas gift to myself. I have read a lot of books about her and have always wanted to make a model of her airplane. In fact I plan to make two models. I also ordered the Special Hobby 1/72 kit from a hobby shop in England.

Is is indeed an odd scale!

Guess the news of her likely discovery after all these years will cause a surge of demand.

Likely discovery? Hadn’t heard… The movie is probably more to do with it. Gordon, I built the Special Hobby Lodestar and it was a real love/hate exercise. Lots of stuff didn’t fit well, and there were for some reason a LOT of unused parts, which erked me a little because the kit was $$$. Always a fan of Williams Bros. look forward to a report.

I received the Special Hobby Lockheed Electra 10 kit from the hobby shop in England on Saturday. This was fast service. It took just seven days from the day I ordered it until I received it. I’m looking forward to building it. It won’t be until after Christmas as it is a gift from me to me.

I’m working on the Special Hobby kit right now. Initial opinion: alot of money for a so-so kit. I guess it’s because they included resin and vac canopies.

I have the Williams Brothers Electra-it has some flash, but with work can produce a nice model. To do an accurate model of the Earhart Electra, it is important to realize that it was far from a standard 10E-it had many special modifications & deviations from a standard 10E. The recent “Amelia” movie’s flyable aircraft were actually Model 12s. The landing gear can use some detailing, & the cockpit is pretty sparse by modern standards.
