I’m just about to start my once-a-year a/c build. I’m building the Tamiya Beaufighter TF MkX. I need AS-10 RAF Ocean Grey. I hate using rattle cans, so I’m looking for the closest match in regular Tamiya acrylics. None of the lhs’s have any AS-10 in stock, so I don’t have a really good idea what it looks like. What Tamiya acrylic would be the closest match? Thanks in advance.
Try XF-54.
Thanks. I appreciate it. I’ll have a look next time I’m at the lhs.
Buff, I know this isn’t Tamiya but you could try looking for Model Master Acylics or Enamels. They have dedicated colors, no code stuff. Persoanlly I think the MM paints are very good. No knock against Tamiya (I own a lot of tamiya paints), but just for ease MM is great.
Thanks for the answer, but I don’t like using enamels because I don’t like spraying those kinds of solvents in the house. I hadn’t thought of MM Acryl. I’ll have to take a look.
One word of advice about MM Acryl: You’ll have to play with your thinning ratios a bit if you will be doing close up, free hand camo. Another tip, you HAVE to use some sort of agent to reduce tip dry. This is why it will spatter a bit. Once you get those bugs figured out, the paint adheres very well to a primer coat and I haven’t had any lift on me yet!
