I am building a Lamborgini now and thought I should coat the windscreen for protection and clarity.
I know many modelers have/do use Future and I have heard that the product Quick Shine is a replacement alternative.
before I make a mistake, does anyone have experience with quick shine? Guess it is available at WalMart
I’m using Novus now to polish canopies for aircraft. Works really well for that, so it might be worth a shot on a car windscreen. There is also Gauzy Agent Glass Coat made by AK Interactive (sort of the same concept as Future), which I have tried, but I found that I liked the results of the Novus polishing method better.
John - are you selling these or have you found somewhere available?
Not selling. Just showing what the latest version of the classic is. Poking around it’s available but not for less than $50.00! Looks like the stopped making it in 2022. I have read Quick Shine is a good substitute but do you research. I’ve had the original future for over 30 years!
Still have 1/2 bottle of the Original Future. Still works great.

I still use Testors glosscoat. It works well for either enamel and real lacquer (the real stuff, not acrylic lacquer.
Not for use over aacrylics
Missileman = that is interesting. I have been using gloss coat over acrylics and seems OK. What problems do you see with that combo?
Depending on the acrylic paint I suppose, but I’ve had no trouble putting any clears over acrylic color coats, which includes lacquer clear coats over craft paint. I have had trouble with lacquer over enamel years ago. If lacquer clear coats will go over acrylic color coats then enamel should be no trouble at all, though I have no idea why one would want to do that, especially if the base coat is white or silver…
One test I don’t recall trying as yet is hotter clear lacquer over Tamiya acrylic. That one could backfire but I won’t say for sure till I run the test. Tamiya has an excellent clear acrylic, X-22 anyway though, that I’ve used over acrylics and over lacquer color coats. My clear of choice presently is Createx 4050 . It’s one I can buff up to the desired shine I like and looks like an antique car lacquer job,not a custom car wet look. Thus why I’m liking it. I can do the same with their 4030 but it’s more buffing to get the same result, plus doesn’t have the UV protection 4050 has.
Carry on as you wish, don’t let me take the thread off course, just some tidbits is all. Also as I think this through, my post is about airbrushing, not spray cans. Just wanted to get that out there.

I have the first results of trying to coat clear windows with Quick Shine. Not happy but i have to figure out how to attach the picture I took.
Basically, this floor wax is watery but opaque and it does not wick as easily as Future and thus tends to mound up on the bottom.
Also, it left a residue that I have tried to remove with both Windex and Alcohol to no avail. Next i will try to clear the plastic back with Novus… A bummer but I am only out about $7.50 [:D]
I am trying toattach a photo of the clear part “damage” - this after trying to clean it off with Windex and alcohol.
I’ve seen this chart several times and all I can say is category or line A has not been my experience at all, in a few years now of testing various acrylic color coat paints with solvent top coat clears. Thus far I can’t agree with line A, that could be subject to change in the future of course as I have not tested every combo possible.
Can’t say that I’ve ever had issues with lacquer clearcoats over any kind of paint either. The chart is definitely valid for brush painting, but an airbrush pretty much eliminates most of the compatibility issues between one or the other. Even rattle-canning a clear lacquer over acrylics or enamels hasn’t given me issues.
Yup. That’s a bummer. That’s how I ended up trying Novus after trying Future and Glass Coat. I didn’t like how it looked afterward and it was such a PITA to get it all removed completely afterward. Not to mention the fact that a lot of liquid masking agents have something in them that reacts badly with Future and Glass Coat. I bought a bag of cotton gloves to use for Novus polishing…makes it easy and natural to polish things just by rubbing them with your fingers. [H]
