almost un paintable tracks

i’m doing a pzkw iv f2 by italeri and painting the tracks is [:(!] awful

any recomendations to ease my frustration

If they are the “soft” plastic band type - Stretch them out and pin them flat. Use a very light coat of enamel primer on the track (You need the enamel to “bite” into the material) Let dry. Put a base coat on with an initial wash - then put them on. This also works with plastic length & Link tracks. The secret is to get a primer coat on so that paint will then stick.

I use an automotive celluose primer myself. An other choice is indy links

Terry.

I always wash vinyl tracks with dish soap and warm water first then let them dry. Prime, them paint them. I expect some flaking when installing them, particularly if they’re very tight. I also expect to touch up paint some once they’re on. I do my weathering after they’re installed along with the rest of the vehicle.

If the vinyl tracks are black in color,I usually just drybrush them after installation.A light tan/buff color for pads and silver for the metal parts. If the tracks are metallic in color,I give them a heavy coat of black paint then touch them up after I install them. Then I repeat the above process for black tracks. It works for me.

Yes, always pre-wash them to get all the icky oil agents off of them, so the paint will adhere.
