Alclad II Klear Kote Matte

Finally got around to trying Alclad’s new matte clear coat last night and WOW.

I’ve had issues with clear coats ever since I got back into modeling. I’ve had Polly flat spit white flecks all over a kit. I’ve had Future come out pebbly. I’ve had mixed success mixing up various levels of matte using Tamiya’s Flat Base.

This stuff, though, goes down super thin. It’s not dead flat, either. It maintains a very subtle sheen to it.

At long last, I think I’ve found a clear coat I’m happy with!

What do you clean your airbrush with when you use this stuff?

Thanks,

Brian

mineral spirits

I bought some on my trip to Phoenix this week at the hobby depot there. I also picked up a bottle of the Auqa Gloss.

  1. Have you tried the gloss stuff? I am at the stage where my J1N1 is ready for the gloss coat and I am a little concerned about trying a new product on a “real” build but I don’t have a scrap one to try it on.

  2. Do you lay the Matt on thick or thin coats?

Man it seems like Iam asking you a lot of questions here lately.[:D]

Haven’t tried the gloss stuff yet, except on the IP bezels on the LaGG-3 I’m building. Seems shinier than Future from that small application.

As for the matte, I layed it on in a thin coat. It lays down like silk…reminded me a lot of the way Tamiya or Gunze Mr. Color spray when you’ve got them thinned just right. Perfect, smooth and consistent.

Cool… Thanks!
