Airfix vs. Minicraft

Okay now that I am getting on an airline model kick ( I am an airline pilot and have only built ONE airline kit) which is better Airfix or Minicraft?

I have built the Minicraft 1/144th TWA MD-80 and I was quite pleased with it but some of the kits that I am looking for are only done by Airfix. Also only interested in 1/144th scale for space, I build 1/48th scale military aircraft and space is becoming a problem! So are they about the same? Better? Worse?

Thanks,
Steve

Haven’t built any Minicraft kits, but have plenty of experience with Airfix.

These kits are generally OK in outline, though somewhat basic in terms of details.

However on a 1/144 airliner, I can’t imagine that, that is too great a problem.

Generally, Minicraft models are much more advanced than Airfix. Airfix hasn’t done a new-mould 1/144 airliner for almost 30 years, so panel lines are raised, cabin windows have to be filled, U/C well detail is lacking. Also, you occasionally find the odd Airfix decal sheet that is not 100% in register [:D] That said, Airfix did some subjects (Comet, BAC-111, Vanguard, Trident, L-1011, Caravelle, come to mind) in 1/144 that nobody else did.

Revell Germany do an excellent, and expanding range of 1/144 airliners, which are worth checking out, but may not be widely available in the Colonies.

which colonies might you be refering too??? [alien]

The L-1011 is one is particular that I would love to have a model of and it seems that Minicraft does not have one.
