Airfix SM.79-II detailing...

Yeah… I know that the Italeri kit is a lot better… but I’m a little bored and I want to do something with this old kit… I’ll detail it as much as I can, as a reference I have the Squadron/Signal book “SM-79 in action” or something like that… Well… First step: Modifying the cockpit and fuselage floor; The Airfix original piece is totally flat… I’ve given the correct shape and added the “ribs” from stretched sprue, the cockpit bulkhead is the original and I’ll add some instruments like a radio, the radio operator’s seat and a fire extinguisher. the rear most bulkhead is scratchbuilt… well, it seems like the Italeri and classic Airframes bulkhead, so I think it’s OK… Well, here it is:

Next step: Instrument panel, rudder pedals, Radio compartment detailing and fuselage interior ribbing… well, I’m short of plastic rod, but i’ll see what to do… more pics soon…

Nice start. Keep us posted.

Regards, Rick

You have to start somewhere and it looks good so far.
