Airfix or Revell AG

I’m looking at getting a model of a British Vosper MTB. Which would be better, the Airfix model or the Revell AG model

I got Revells MTB - not bad, but needs some work!

good luck!

Get the Tamiya 1/72 Vosper, it’s a fantastic kit they can be had on Ebay or Trumpeter is making a knockoff version currently.

Bear in mind that Vosper has made lots of different torpedo boats over the decades. The Tamiya kit, if I remember correctly, dates from the late 1970s and represents what was then an extremely modern vessel.

Both the Revell and Airfix kits represent World War II boats - of two different classes. My recollection (I fear I am about to reveal my age) is that the Revell one first appeared as (brace yourself ) “McHale’s Navy PT-73.” (The TV sitcom “McHale’s Navy” did indeed feature war-surplus British Vosper boats masquerading as American PT boats.) That would have been (I think) in the mid-60s; I think the original release actually included miniature figures of Ernest Borgnine and Tim Conway. The kit got reissued (minus figures) a couple of years later under the label “British Vosper MTB.” My recollection is that it was a pretty nice kit; it was just about contemporary with Revell’s PT-109, which is, I believe, one of the firm’s all-time best-sellers.

The Airfix kit came along a little later, I believe in the early to mid-70s. I bought one but I don’t recall that I ever got around to building it. As I remember it was an excellent kit for its time - though it probably (like me) is showing its age now. If I remember right, it was rather remarkable for the time in giving the modeler the choice of a full-hull or waterline configuration.

My recollection is that any of those kits would make a really nice model.

thx, for the info
