Airfix M12 GMC build

Finished building the M12 today and started weathering. Made some weld joints, got rust affects on the cable, then your standard pin wash and dirt and grim, I’ll do a bit of chipping. What’s in the pictures is my “ rough sketch” I haven’t started cleaning it up yet.

Should keep me busy for a few days. Critique’s welcomed and encouraged.

Def like the way you’re handling the track weathering :star_struck:

Minus a little dust I’m thinking this side is good, although I’m not sure if it’s too much, maybe too busy?

What a fun week and a half, I went to a work meeting ( mandatory by fereral law) there was about 200 of us in a small aditorium. Well two people decided to come sick so literally over half of us got a nasty cold, myself included.
Last weekend with a bad headache and stuffed up I though I could kill some time and finish weathering the M12. I grabbed some lifecolor PG 115 red dry mud to dust it up a bit, I’ve had this for awhile and haven’t used it yet. Anyways I start dusting this stuff on and oh my god… It’s BRIGHT red, like bright red. I did one side for some reason before I though dude this is a bit much…
I tried brushing It off, didn’t work, I tried puting it under the kitchen faucet and a little came off but it was still bad, like ruined. I set it down and closed shop for the week…
Today feeling a lot better I grabbed it, a tooth brush and ran it under warm water and scrubbed lighly, a few parts came off but so did 90% of the pigment so I’m calling it a win. It’s drying now so I might mess with it tomorrow. I learn something incredible from every model I attempt, this one I learned I’m tossing the red mud pigments I have because that was just stupid. And no I couldn’t take pictures because I was just pissed and almost tossed this thing lol.

At least you got it mostly off…

This is looking just great so far. Hated to hear about the bright red mud ordeal but sounds like you got past it okay.

Looking forward to seeing more on this one bud.

Persevere! And always remember, pigments get toned waaaay down under a clear coat.

I’ll live lol, it was definitely a surprise, the color that is. It’s a reminder to test before I place.

The main issue was it was so bright you couldn’t see any of the weathering even after frantically dry brushing as much off as possible. Im sure it would have toned down but it literally covered everything up. Weathering isn’t my strong point so most times covering it up is fine

Since the dust incident I’ve lost interest in this one and I don’t want to force myself to finish it just to finish it so I’m setting this off to the side for now, I’ll have another go at it in a few weeks I’m sure but I know I won’t be happy with it if I just do it just for the sake of finishing.

One improvement you can consider is to ensure all twelve roadwheels are on the same plane. The Academy bogies allow the road wheel arms to rock back and forth. OK if you’re planning on putting it on undulating terrain. Not realistic if on a flat surface.
