I tend to be little bias toward certain manufactures because I’ve just grown accustom to them and what to expect as far as quality. I’d never paid much attention to Airfix, but my LHS owner talked this one up knowing that I’m a 109 guy, and along with the fact that I love tropical planes I bit. Heck, it was only $20. All I can say is this kit was a pleasure to build. No fit issues for me at all. The cockpit is a little sparse, and there were a couple of injection marks I could have lived without, but for the price I won’t complain. The middle canopy section was a little narrow and high. If I had paid attention to this before painting I could have fixed it. It’s a learning experience for me. I always do my canopies open, so I am not in the habit of anticipating these things. I highly recommend this kit if you like the 109s and want one on a budget. If I am building one for a show or diorama I’m going Hasegawa. However, for a nice hobby room decoration this kit is adorable.
Thanks for the kind words. The paints were Vallejo in this instances. I used to not like how they airbrushed but since I learned not to thin them with Tamiya they seem to work better. However, this was before learning that. The green splotches were hand painted.
As a 109 fan, I like the build a lot! [B] How did you do the green mottling, w/AB or hand brush? So you liked the AF kit, I almost picked that one up but already have an Emil in the Tamiya brand. I think AF is sometimes looked down on, not sure why and since I haven’t built one yet have no personal experience.
Nice job with the AF. I realy like the camo. I realy like the weathering also. Was the Camo hand painted or was it air brushed? great job. I built an AF 109F and like you throughly enjoyed. I did use an aftermarket canopy though as the AF are just so far out of scale it’s not funny.
Thanks everyone. As for the camo I did the green with a brush. At first i was going to use Glad press and seal but after cutting one wing I had had enough of that. Humidity has been plaguing my airbrushing lately and although I believe soft edges is correct, I didn’t want to risk blowing moister.
maxfax- My workspace gets out of control so I try take a moment at the end of each session and straighten back up. You should see it now…not pretty.
Very nice indeed. Great job. We always complain about the weather in the UK, but at least we don’t have to worry about it when it comes to airbrushing.
