Are any of you guys as excided as I am about Airfix announcing a 1/48 Defiant being released early next year? I’m not an RAF nut, but I have always loved this misfit plane. Are there any AM decals sheets out there already that were made by the usual suspects when CA released their Defiants, or will i have to settle for the kit markings once this hiys the store shelves?
There’s something about this one That I liked since I saw the old Airfix kit back in the 70s. Maybe it’s the strange design. I always liked some of the more unusual aircraft, Shinden pusher, Lysander, P-39 and more. When is it due out and have you heard what the price might be?
Right now I think they are shooting for late Feb '16, and you can pre order one for 16.99 Pounds (roughly 25-26 USD?) But who knows what shipping on top of that might be.
I do recall somebody making some AM decals for this aircraft… I am looking forward to this kit. Since it Airfix, I know that I will be able to afford it.

Very cool! I will definitely build one simply because I think it’s such an oddball aircraft.
As far as markings go - I believe the new-tool kits have Cartograf decals (some of them, at least). I haven’t checked on the Hurricane I’m building, but the instrument panel decal was really nice, and I expect the rest of them will be, too. Unless, of course, you just want a different scheme than all the others.

I’m one of those guys who likes something different… I wouldn’t be surprised if Xtradecals comes out with a new sheet or two around the release date, them being a British company, and the subject being British plane made by another British company. I really like their products too.

I have an 1/48th limited run kit of the aircraft (don’t remember who makes it) which is supposed to be somewhat rare that I’m been intending to build since well forever… Guess I should have tossed it on Ebay before Airfix announced this!
Airfix continues to impress with its releases of outstanding kits with great quality and detail.
The Defiant in 1/48 will be a VERY welcome addition !!
I just came home from Barnes and Nobles where I picked up the 2nd to the last copy of the August AIRFIX Magazine which features the upcoming release of its 1/72nd HE-111.
I looks awesome to say the least. This will be a must have kit and in multiples can’t just have one!!
I’m looking forward to this, too! I’m a bit disappointed, though, that they used 2 day fighter markings, instead of including a night fighter option.
Perhaps Airfix will do a seperate Night Fighter kit with the associated radar parts? Pure speculation on my part, but it would make sense.
Im definitely excited for this one. I saw the 1/72 scale Defiant, and if this is anyting like its small scale relative, it will be fantastic.

Not so much about the plane itself, but its role (or lack there of) in the Battle of Britain, which I have a keen interest it. I will build one to complete my BOB collection. Now If we could get a 1/48 Do-17Z and Ju-88 A-1 in 1/48. .

My suggestion for markings on the new-tooled HE-111 were markings for a B of B version most famous was the look down photo of a HE-111 flying over the bend of the Thames River in London. Years ago a master modeler in our club built a 1/32nd scratch version of it, he did the research and made all the markings himself. I have not come across any decal markings for that particular HE-111.
AIRFIX did respond to my e-mail and said they would review the suggestion and look into it for their BofB series so perhaps something may come of it!!!
As for the Defiant my 11 yearold son also loves that plane. I bought 2 of the new tooled kits from AIRFIX and they look awesome. In fact My son plans to start on it today!! The other one is for me.
As for the DO-17 in 1/48 there is a company called ICM which has new moulded versions of 1/48 DO-17’s and DO-217’s. e-models out of U.K. has them and I recently bought the new moulded DO-17Z 1/48 and can tell you it looks great I was really impressed with the tooling job. It will be awhile before I build it but I would recommend the kit. I do plan to get the other versions soon.
New Dorniers…fantastic! When are we to expect the DO-17Z-2? Hannants said its a future release. I will build this one immediately. Reference the He111, I still thing the Monogram kit is a fine example, but I’m not opposed to a new tooled one with an OOB bomb bay.
Hello! Interested in information about the set of nice instruments Overhaul universal, 172 items. Item number: OH3961 posted on the site. Is this an original tool ??? The style of its execution confuses, as it seemed to me the corporate style - the sets in red cases and the steel of the tools are chrome-plated, and this one has a case of a different color, the steel of the tools is matte. Thank!
