Airfix 1/72 Cessna O-1 Bird Dog

Small but accurate 70s kit by Airfix. A resin cockpit set was added and the panel lines re-scribed. I used the kit front and rear windscreen but replaced all the other clear parts as they were thick and distorted. Finished with home-made Thai counter-insurgency decals.

Mike - a real beauty! One of theese days I’m going to build one too, and then I hope it looks somewhat like your model! Great job, thanks for sharing and have a nice day

I’m not sure if that is the same kind of plane but when I saw the pics I thought immediately of “Bat 21”, the movie with Gene Hackman as a downed pilot in Vietnam.

Another nice build. You do super clean work.

BK

Yes, that’s a fine build!

Another beauty. I suspect you spent some time thinning and polishing that windshield.

Beautiful! The photography is great too.

Beautiful, and tiny.

Thanks for the kind comments

Wow! Gorgeous job on that old classic.

I was just thinking that I’ve already commented on this build and I couldn’t find it here lol.

Then I realized that you’re also a member of Genessis lol!

Cheers, mate!

Still a very fine and gorgeous build. No matter what site we’re on

Superb build there Sir, well done.

Wow, she’s a beauty!

My gosh that is one clean looking bird. Great build!

Thanks again guys

Absolutely incredible work! I know what this kit looks like from the box, and to bring it to this level of beauty requires exceptional skills. Excellent work!

I’m pretty sure they used a O-2 in Bat 21.

I have to get my Thai Navy O-1 started. Did you have any trouble with the top windows?

Thanks for the kind comments, glad you like it

Thanks ikar01. The upper windows in the kit are thick, distorted and don’t fit particularly well, so I cut them all out and inserted a new section of clear plastic, sanded to shape and polished. The separate panes were then masked with tape, so I ended up with clear, flush windows.

WOW Mike. That’s a little piece of modeling heaven. Just gorgeous. It has great “scale” appearance.

Beautiful attention to detail!
