i’ve recently been building the 1/72 Airfix Lancaster from thier BBMF set (also includes BBMF Spitfire and Hurricane). Anyway, i’ve decided to post photos (not great quality as there from my phone) of it as it is being built. Im using a Badger 250 to paint it (It’s not a very good airbrush! I think it’s actually a spray-gun) and masking tape and blu-tak to mask it. I’m using Tamiya and Vallejo paint’s. Anyway, where are some photo’s -
I like acronyms yet not knowing their meaning is a sore point of curiosity for me.
What is the acronym BBMF stand for? Thanks.
I can only speculate its meaning, due to the three in one nature and subjects I would dare to guess something to do with the British air force? Regardless the Airfix kit looks older as I was wondering your opinion on the kit(s)?
I like the ease of your painting process as in the wing separate for the large bomber, I will note this technique for future reference.
She’s coming along nicely. Just a suggestion for future reference, it looks like you painted the green base first before applying the dark earth camo. When painting multiple colours, it’s usually preferable to paint the lighter colour first, as it’s easier to paint dark over light than it is light over dark…
The lancaster has been easy to build, with most of the parts fitting nicely, I haven’t tried the other two yet. And as Phil said, BBMF stands for Battle of Britain Memorial Flight.
Oh yeah, and the camera i’m using really dosen’t show colours very well!
A great reference book I have is “Lancaster, a bombing legend” by Rick Radell and Mike Vines which has some superb pictures of PA474 with various squadron codes and the other BBMF aircraft as well as the Canadian Lancaster. ISBN 1-85152-969-1
dumb question, how does one insert pictures into threads on this forum. Can’t see how to do it.
