Well, I’ve finally finished my third model since returning to the hobby… the Airfix 1/48 Hurricane Mk1. Had some interesting… “adventures” towards the end, but I’m reasonably happy with the results. Here are some random pictures from the build.

Experimented with using oils to create streaking. Still not sure how I feel about it. I think I overdid it. (shrug)

What I haven’t shared is the completely bone-headed thing I did when I applied the dull coat. In my zeal to finish up this build, I got some things out of sequence. Specifically, I attached all the final/unmasked clear parts (canopy, landing light covors… etc.) BEFORE I sprayed the dull coat. Worse yet, I didn’t even notice what was happening untill all of those clear parts had turned almost completely opaque. [:'(] The child version of me would of thrown the plane against a wall and cried for awhile. The current, middle-aged version of me sighed deeply, then stripped all the parts off the plane, stripped them bare, remasked them and sprayed them up again. Then I cried for a while. hahaha…
Anyway, now I’m starting the Tamiya P-47D Bubbletop. I’ll start a WIP thread for that and share the disasters as they happen. [:)]
Thanks Toshi. Yes, the camo was done freehand. My first freehand attempt and I’m pretty happy with it.
Toshi and DasBeav… yeah, definately a lesson learned. After I did all the repair work I started thinking that it might be a good idea to create a checklist that I could follow in the future to prevent getting important things in the wrong order. [:)]

Looking forward to the P-47 WIP. I do belive there is a Thunderbolt GB kicking around here someplace and I think the guy running it would be happy to have you join with that Tamiya Bubbletop…just saying[;)]
Your Hurricane looks great. I don’t see any over-done weathering.
As for the dull coat fiasco, you certainly rescued that admirably. I did that once on a Nell bomber and did not even notice until after I posted build photos here and someone politely pointed it out. I had to go back and look at it close up under bright lights to finally see my error, but at that point I decided to just chalk it up for what it was and leave well enough alone.
Yep, what they all said. I think you did a great job. I myself totally screwed up the canopy on my 1/48 Spit that I am busy with. Oh well, it will just have to do.
As a kid (pre-teen) I read the book “Reach for the Sky” in the mid 50’s. I have one Spit in my stash but it’s not one I’ll probably ever build (too many problems, from what I’ve read with the Occidental kit). I’ll most likely get another Spit and, perhaps, a Hurricane.
As to your spraying dull coat on the clear parts - been there, done that also.
I got back into this hobby in middle age - maybe late middle age [:D]. I began my second run of building plastic model kits about 6 years ago. You can tell how old I am now by my user name.
At 74 and with a few models under my belt one would think I’d have learned the basic tenets of building plastic kits but, no, I still screw up royaly from time-to-time. I just screwed up the decals on the Avenger I’m working on but, what the heck, it’s all for fun AFAIC, so I’ll continue the WIP even with my screw ups.
I liked your idea of a checklist so much I just printed my own from an old article I’ve had bookmarked…Might even put up a dry-erase board for a "model to do’ list…almost made a mistake tonight!
