Airfix 1/24 Hawker Typhoon Mk. IB Complete

Since the old site basically died on must of us, I have managed to complete a few builds. The first that I have to share is the huge Airfix Hawker Typhoon Mk. IB.

I finished this monster back in July 2024. I don’t recall too many issues with the build, other than it took me longer than a typical kit. Obviously, given the sheer number of parts in the huge box upon which it was delivered to my house many years ago.

I mostly used AK Interactive 3G acrylic paints, although there are some AK Interactive Xtreme Metal shades, Tamiya, and Vallejo in/on there are well.

The Typhoon now hangs on a bedroom wall alongside the Airfix 1/24 Mosquito that I built more than a decade ago.

And for a size comparison, here is the big hoss with her 1/48 sibling I did about a year ago.

I have built 6 other kits since finishing the Typhoon, but with the site down I could never post them. Some I still need to photograph. With my Christmas PTO starting this afternoon, I should have some time to get those pictures completed so I can post those as well.

That’s a very fine looking model, Stephen. Glad to be able to see your posts again.

Fantastic model! She sure is a big girl it 1/24

Amazing job on this Typhoon Aggieman! I’ve got the same kit in the stash and perhaps it’s time to break it out.

Great work on all that detail.

That’s a beautiful Typhoon, Aggieman!

How long did this build take you?

Many of the rivets are a darker color. How was it done? Did you dry brush to get that effect?

@Edwin
The darker color you’re seeing is just a wash. I used Flory dark dirt wash on this build, wiped most of it away until I was happy with the result.

I believe this one took 2+ months (although out of that time frame I was on vacation for 10 days).

@Aggieman

I see, guess those rivets must be recessed then? For some reason, thought those were raised rivets. Beautifully done in any case.

Beautiful model! I want to get/build a Tiffie, but I have to say, I think 1/24 is beyond me - maybe patience, likely skill, perhaps money, but I don’t think I’ll be attempting anything like this any time soon. I’m just going to keep reading your threads and applauding. :clap::clap::clap:

@gomeral Hasegawa makes a really good Typhoon in 48th scale. It’s the one I included for size comparison in one of the photos.
