I hear ya about the diff shades of white, though im not that far advanced yet in exact painting of models lol though i am getting there. Ill go for the flat white and flat black for the thermal tiles underneath and certain edges that catch airflow…
can u verify that the shuttle discovery took hubble into orbit??
The shuttle tiles are actually coated with a semi-gloss ceramic, so the black tiles are somewhat shiney when new. However, depending on how you choose to model it, after re-entry they tend to matte up a bit and you’ll also see some fairly pronounced scorching from the tile pattern. A complete pain in the tail to airbrush each one individually, but on a large enough scale, the effect could be pretty amazing!
hi uilleann, thanks for the reply. I know what ya mean about the thermal tiles etc, but unfortunatly this model lacks the tile detail, its just flat, you dont see tiles which is a bit of a shame. So im not going to put too much paint detail on as it would be a waste of time.
This kit is now finished, ill will get pics posted as soon as i can. What i did notice about this airfix model was some of the parts didnt fit properly and lack of detail, was a bit of nightmare, this is the 2nd airfix kit ive done with the same problem. Also the decals, when u took them off the backing paper they automatically rolled up, Grrrr. So some decals are missing but looks very nice though…
