AIRCRAFT - On The Warpath: The Curtiss P-40

Mark and Steve thanks for the responses I appreciate it. AMtech are going to release a P-40k-5 around the end of this month so I will definitely pick one up when they become available. If I manage to polish off a couple of other GB’s sometime soon I might have to sneak back and join you guys.

Cheers
Darren

Well here is a quick peek of what I got done so far…

This will be the only thing you will see from me for a couple of weeks as I slowly paint and detail the interior. It has been an adventure that I am sure Eduard planned all along. I lost 3 control handles…I’m glad Eduard gave me some extras on the PE sprue otherwise they could make a killing just replacing handles for people. I swear the seat frame took 10 weeks off of my life just due to the stress level of gluing it in place…then I read the warning on the box that said the seat frame may cause eye strain, high blood pressure, fowl language, liver disease, and diareha. I wish somone woulda warned me…[;)][:P]

The Resin is very cream in color, so it is hard to pick out the details in these pics. I did have to break the seat back off after I did a dry fit and found it at the incorrect angle. And I also shortened the control stick a bit, since it was past the pilot’s chin in stock form.

Great progress Steve, I see you really are doing some modeling!!! LOL Thanks for the great site, it is going to prove to be a popular hang-out.

Like I said I won’t bore you all with various pics of the cockpit in various stages of horrible painting, but will only bore you with all of the written details instead!! LOL

Edit: posting pics really does help sometimes…I see the bent rudder pedal, and will correct it ASAP

Looking good Heath. Nice progress.

Regards, Rick

Well I really want to post some pics but I do not know how to get my pictures from the computer to the internet and on to this site. If someone could possibly help me…? I would be more than happy to post pics.

You need a host web site. There are some free ones out there. I use Photobucket, which seems to be popular with several members. Once they are on a host site, just hyperlink to FSM using the [img] … [/ img] protocol (without the blank space).

VA, I was going to give you some instructions a while back and it just plain went over my head… my apologies…

I’ll send an email with some info for you…

Fade to Black…

I too use photobucket, you can’t beat the deal. I paid the 25 dollars for the year, which is cheap when you think about it.

I must say that everyone is coming along nicely on their builds, where as I haven’t moved an inch due to having to work overtime, working over the weekend, and 3 kids playing sports. My fiancee will be at working this weekend, so hopefully I can get some more work done.

Can someone please tell me why when I resized the GB badge that it didn’t come out clearer like everyone else’s?

heath great work.

joe

When you play around with images you have to keep an eye on the format and ‘mode’ of an image. I won’t go into it here…

Here’s the original and some resized images…

Kik, it’s coming along very nicely! I added your pics to the site and darkened the resin up a bit in a few spots so you can see a bit more detail…

Fade to Black…

I guess I will have to mess with it some more. Just bugs the [censored] out of me.

ok after looking at what i did and the pics in the detail and scale as well as the comments from a fellow modeler, i removed the engine and redid the compartment and reinstalled. i am much happier with this.

even the cowl fits on. oh and the wheel wells are now constructed.

even got something for the display i am thinking of.

joe

Joe, I like that platform!

Looking good Joe. Keep wrestling her till you win the battle.

Regards, Rick

Joe, I have to agree…the new engine conifguration is top notch my friend!!! I like the wheel wells. You are much braver than me, as I copped out and got the profi-pack that included the resin details…

Well Heath, I must say that I’ve used a lot of four-letter words while modeling, but I’ve never clucked like a chicken![(-D][(-D] (Sorry, I couldn’t resist!)

Seriously, your build, along with Joe’s, Steve’s, and Justen’s, is really coming along well (hopefully I didn’t forget anyone).

Mark

Since so many other people have put up progress pictures, I thought I would also. As Steve-O can attest, I’m flying through this build! [;)]

Wayners, I think you are a little ahead of me [:)].

Regards, Rick

Well I hit yet another snag, I was airbrushing on the exhaust and gun stains when sudenly my airbrush gave a burp and out came much more black paint than I wanted. I was so close to being done and would have been finished today, But because of the accedent I had to spend two hours matching up the six shades of Olive DDrab on the plane I used to fix it. So its wont be done till sunday now.

The skies the limit,

V.A.

VA, Hate it when something like that happens. Hope the fix went well.
