Your best bet is the Floating Drydock. They have a large selection of all sorts of ships. www.floatingdrydock.com
I recently went down to my local library and found seveal good books on AIrcraft carriers. Scanned a ton of good reference drawings and photo’s
Great idea! The library!
I wen to the library and there are some books on carriers. However, they are all broad. They talk about carriers as a whole. What I need is a SUPERdetailed resource about a PARTICULAR one. Since I’m trying to virtually scratchbuild a huge 1/96 scale modern nuclear carrier, I would need many many detailed, up close pics of the real thing. It’s so hard to find up close pics that shows all the details. All the carrier photos I can find are taken half a mile away of the whole ship…
…maybe I should call the Navy…
One thing you could try is the Anatomy of a Ship series they cover all types of ships and in great detail.

If you have a particular carrier in mind, you may be able to get ahold of their PAO (Public Affairs Officer) who can point you in the right direction, including setting up a tour, telling you where to get the documents, or even helping out in other ways. Most of them that I have worked with are more than willing to help out.
BTW, which one did you have in mind?

USS George Washington or USS T. Rooselvelt, whatever is more convenient.
I found a little information to get you started. Contact:
USS Theodore Roosevelt PAO
LT John Oliviera
pao@roosevelt.navy.mil
USS George Washington PAO
pao@washington.navy.mil
Sorry, couldn’t get the name of the Washington’s PAO. However, they will be able to tell you what you need to know, or if such material is available. Be sure to title your email clearly, as they receive thousands of them a day.
Hope this helps.

I’ve been doing this with USS John C. Stennis. I contacted the PAO, who hooked me up with the Photo Officer (I was stationed on that ship a while back). He has been very accomodating, which I need as I find out through research that the Italieri kit is very inaccurate for my needs. I imagine that the other kits are, too…

I was part of a team, when we builded a 1/72 scale carrier. The USS Nimitz, we even had all the squadrons to. That was tough thanks goodness for mircoscale.
