Hi all, I usually build cars.As a slump buster,I got a Revell 1/48 SBD Dauntless.I know it is old and there are many kits that are better,but I built this many years ago and thought it would be fun to do it again.
My question is what sequense do you all use for painting.I will be using rattle cans and brush as I can’t afford an airbrush(old and retired).
Best colors for topside and underside?? Interior??

what I use for the top intermediate blue fs35164 underside gull gray fs36440 interior I use interior green fs34151 all model masters enamles and it comes in spray again thats what I use for early SBD’s I hope it helps

I was wondering,if you put canopy in and build up wings and tail,what is the best way to mask cockpit ares??
I have used the dull scotch tape, tamiya tape masking tape (blue has less tack)I do paint the model with canopy in place thats just me
You can mask the canopy and secure it with Aleene’s Tacky White glue which can be removed later if you want to have the canopy open. You can also use either soft foam or wet tissues for covering the pit area.
I usually stuff the cockpit with Kleenex. Sometimes it helps to wet it slightly, but I only do this if I absolutely have to, as it makes removal harder.
In terms of general rules on painting vs assembly, each model is different. You should go through the instructions completely first, and form a plan of build. Note where seams that need to be filled are- these joints must be assembled before finishing. What parts and subassemblies must be painted seperately before painting. Next model might be completely different. Only general rule is there is no rule. In almost all cases you will paint some parts seperately, some as part of a subassembly, and there will be painting of major assembly. I generally keep landing gear off until the rest of model is painted.
