I’m sure there’s a few variables in the equation that could be causing this, but i’ve airbrushed a couple of coats on 2 aircraft. (one black, another one gunship gray) both are flat finishes.
Lately i’ve noticed that the finish is “rough” and “flaky” in a few spots. I suspect it’s from me not using enough thinner to thin the paint, and perhaps spraying too little at a time, thus not covering the whole area.
of course with me being a beginner, it may be something else less obvious to me, anyone ever had this problem?
(i will be putting a coat of future finish all around and do a few coats before i do the decals, maybe that will help)
Thinning may be one of the variables, and you might want to try thinning a tad more. The other variable that comes to mind is painting distance. Sounds like the pigment is drying before it hits the model. You might want to move your airbrush closer. All this, of course, is going to depend on how much air pressure you’re using, and how fine a setting you have on your 'brush. In addition, make sure your paint is thoroughly mixed prior to and after thinning. Depending on how long you spend spraying in one session, you may also want to occasionally stir the paint in your color cup or bottle to ensure a homogeneous mixture throughout.
