Airbrushing Future floor wax & cleaning up

After airbrushing on a coat of future floor wax what is the best to clean up the airbrush with?

Thanks, Bw

I don’t know whether it’s the best, but I use either alcohol or Windex and they both seem to do the job just fine.

Hi,

merlin V1650 is correct, alcohol or Windex is all that is need to clean your brush after you shoot Future.

I still like to do a complete clean before I put my airbrush to bed after any use.

Since Future is acrylic, I would use the standard acrylic airbrush cleaner that I have recommended on this forum before:

2 parts distilled water
1 part Windex
1 part Simple Green

Thanks guys

That’s right, I forgot to mention MikeV’s recipe (which works great by the way). I just have to go out and buy some more Simple Green and I’ll be back to that formula…Thanks again for that one, Mike

My pleasure Merlin. [;)]

What do you use to thin the Future for airbrushing? Do you use the “special mix” for that also, or do you use something else?

Don’t thin, use straight.

Future for airbrushing wow! I have been gone to long. :frowning: When do you do this when you are comp done with the model?

Most modelers will airbrush the Future prior to decaling for a glass smooth surface, ideal for decals.

I heard that it is possible to mix future and flat base (tamiya, microscale) to achive a semigloss or even flat finish. Have anyone actually done it? could you tell me the ratio to mix?

I asked this question once before but no response [:(!]

Question to the board:

Under what name is future sold in other countries?

Or what are equivalent brands in the rest of the world?

I want to give it a try, but can’t find future locally.

In reference to Future floor wax…once you have applied the decals can you cover the model with a flat finish to obtain the “no gloss” look? And will this hurt the finish? Thanks,
Ed

Ed,

Absolutely.
Some spray dullcoat right over the Future and others put another coat of Future over the decals and then when dry they put the dullcoat over that.
I am not sure which method is better.

I would like to know as much as possible about how to clean up an airbrush that has had Future Floor polish shot through it. I truly need some guidance on this so that I do it right please. I have used simple green to clean up in an industrial way however never in a home use. I have seen several U tube articles saying not to use Windex do to the ammonia D in it is there something in which I can replace it so I don’t damage my paasche Talon airbrush. Does thinning Windex with Simple Green reduce the damage to the plating in and on the airbrush?
