Ok, I’ve been using a Paasche VL with a D500 compressor w/out a regulator for about 7 years now. I’m planning on getting a gravity fed AB but still want on using my VL. I’ve recently been using the brush to do more detail shading and noticed that no matter how I thin my paint (acrylics) I keep getting paint splatters or spitting. When I pull back on the trigger I noticed that the needle doesn’t retract in the center of the tip but is offset to the left when I’m looking directly at it. I have already replaced the needle and tip, same results. Would this cause paint spits or is there another problem in the brush. Or, is my compressor going out, so maybe I’m not getting enough pressure? Help.[sigh]
Hi, I’m not familiar with the VL, but if the needle is off kilter I would suspect there is something wrong with the airbrush.
When I dropped my 100LG and bent the tip and tried to spray, it caused irregular spray patterns, but no splattering. If you’ve changed the needle and tip and it still does it, email Paasche or send it in…
With a regulator and guage you’d know if the pressure was the issue. Splatter usually for me means its time to do a total tear down of the brush and clean it. Check the o-rings and lube them up. Also make sure your hose isn’t leaking at the fittings or has a puncture in the hose. Also be sure that you have the correct needle with the correct tip. I’ve managed to mix and match them before. Sometimes it works, other times not. Be sure the little filter on the inlet side of your compressor is clean. After seven years of sucking in air to push out through the hose, it is bound to be dirty. If it is foam, wash it in dish soap and let dry. Paper ones-replace!
D500’s have filters?!
