Is it really necessary to oil the airbrush? It’s wiped off when you clean it and gets mixed into the paint as well. Isn’t it better not to? What kind of oil is used as well?

Oil & Water (acrylics) don’t mix, & it will ruin enamels as well!
Vallejo (& others) airbrush thinner & cleaner have ‘some’ lube properties.
I spray, clean with a/b thinner, then strip down when necessary & use Badgers’ REGDAB to lube the trigger, the needle (from behind the paint cup area) & the cap threads, then assemble loosely.
The REGDAB doesn’t have any deleterious effect on the a/b, seals or acrylic paint so far as I have used it.

I just use the Medea cleaner and let the teflon washer do its intended job, after reading Don’s site.

Interesting question, the new Iwata I just bought comes with a tube of lube.Instructions are to put a few drops in the trigger opening.it is an iwata product called super lube, non toxic, non silicone.I have not yet tried it.Any thoughts on this ?
I believe that is the stuff that Don talked about in the link I posted.
If it is the same stuff, you may not want to put it into an airbrush.

Tojo, I have a couple tubes of that Iwata lube. It will gum up after a while. I’ve only used it around the trigger mechanism but don’t anymore. Holding off for some of the Badger lube which seems to be forever out of stock at the places I like to buy from.
